View Full Version : Should I see a therapist?

Hi...I've posted on here before, but not in a couple of months. I just recently began suffering from anxiety attacks; I've always been a nervous person but it just seems to finally be showing itself. My main symptoms are a racing heart and that nervous butterfly feeling in my stomach. I've been taking 25mg of metprolol for about 4 months now and it has been wonderful. But the past few days my heart has been acting up again, doing the racing thing when I get nervous. I don't know if it's b/c of the stress of the holidays (my mother in law is coming to stay with us tomorrow for the weekend!) or what. I still don't feel bad enough to try an antidepressant, but I'm wondering if talking to a therapist or psychiatrist might be helpful. I am really unsure what type of doctor would be best to talk to. Thank you for any advice or suggestions!

And Happy Thanksgiving!!

your beta blocker is useful for the physical anxiety problems, maybe ask doc about upping the dose for the bad days
rather than an AD I would be trying to get some benzo to take only as needed, goes well with your other med
before seeing a therapist, why not borrow books and tapes from your library on overcoming agoraphobia and panic disorder as these have all the info you need and are much cheaper
you can say you are trying to help a friend
