I've had twitches in the past over various parts of my body that come and go. Today, for whatever reason, I have been getting these little twitches under my chin. they come and go at random and are not painful or anything but naturally, being an anxiety sufferer, I am concerned and thinking about all kids of diseases and such.

First, is it normal/common for anxiety sufferers to have twitches like that and secondly, where do your twitches usually ocurr (ie; face, neck, hands, etc)?. I'm just trying to get an education here and make sure I'm not going crazy or anything

Hey LT,

Twitching in any part of the body is very, very common not only with anxiety but just in general. It is no big deal. Hey, have you ever had your butt cheek twitch :bouncing: Now thats strange.......

anxiety can cause twitching. I have experienced lots of twitching. I get twitching in my upper arms, thighs, eyelids, and sometimes my cheek will even twitch. When i first started getting twitching i was really scared i was getting some terrible disease like ALS. I never went to the doctors to have it checked out instead i just worried about it..Finally i ended up getting on an antidepressant and my twitching pretty much magically quit and that is when i knew anxiety can cause twitching..

I have alot of twitches. They get annoying. If they are normal, then why are they so disturbing? My face twitches, my arms twitch, my hands twitch, my legs twitch, my feet twitch, my upper torso has twitched and yes--my butt check has twitched. I have noticed that the twitching has worsened since the stress at work has gotten worse. Incidentally, since the stress has gotten worse my sleep has gotten worse and the twitches have gotten worse.

Last March I started twitching after several months of high situational anxiety. I immediately thought the worst because I 'researched' it on the Internet. Big mistake. After 2 neurologists couldn't find anything wrong I saw a psychiatrist and psychologist and went on Buspar for several months. It helped me not to worry. I still twitch though. My calves mostly, feet, sometimes arms, torso. A muscle in my face once twitched for 3 straight days. When my anxiety is bad, then it is worse. It never realy stops though. I try to ignore it now and just be thankful it isn't something worse. My wrists and ankles hurt sometimes too, probably from Cortisol. I sometimes feel that it will never really go away. I would advise getting checked and if (and it almost always is) OK then just move on.
