View Full Version : the 2 year old nutz0 list...

nyxin

i don't know if anyone else is seroiusly contimplating if their two year old+ may be normal or nutz0, but i thought we could all share a little diddy just to know we are all in the same boat. good idea?

my 2 year old....

is obsessed with the vaccuum. he must vaccuum at least 6-7 times a day and when he is not he pretends that he is...

has decided that the only way to get his point across is to repeat it 5 times very fast...

realizes that he is bigger than his 8 month old little brother and really enjoys various forms of torture when he thinks mommy isn't looking...

thinks meat is a foreign substance dropped on his plate my mind altering aliens...

concluded that the cats tail really doesn't need to be attached to it's body...

thinks that twinkle twinkle little star is the only song that has ever been recorded and therefore by default must be played constantly (unless drowned out by the vaccumm)

i could go on, and probably will... now it's your turn... :bouncing:

My two year old is also obsessed with vaccumming too and turning on fans, lights, starting the microwave and pushing the toaster button down. Ketchup is this weeks new favorite food and eats it with a spoon instead of using it as a dip.Choosing battles takes on a whole new meaning. If he had it his way he would wear his Spiderman winter boots all year and maybe to bed too. About 300 times a day I hear mama watch to see him stick a finger in his mouth or run down the hallway.I really love this time though and am waiting for the terrible part to start.

Sounds like a normal 2 year old to me. A friend of mine's child was so obsessed with his grandma's dustbuster, he was absolutely devastated when he got an xmas gift in a dustbuster box, so they had to buy hiim one.

In our house we saw an episode of spongebob where squidwards house gets up, walks around and destroys the town -- I have to draw squidwards house, with shoes, hands, spongebob and patrick wearing fez's several times a day. with the BLACK crayon and only I can draw it -- dh and MIL get in trouble if they try to draw it.

mhy now 3yr old (in august) LOVES to vaccum... and sweep stilL! One day in sunday school he swept the ENTIRE TIME! *lol*

our song is "Row Row Row your boat"....... over and over and over and over and over...

he and his sister (who's 25ms older) used to be the same size (they're both big, she went through a mondo growth spurt though)... he'd knock her down and sit her down so she couldn't move...

he HAS to be asuperhero .... and he won't be called by his real name.. ONLY the superhero name......

etc etc lol

nyxin
11-27-2005, 01:12 AM
what is the super hero name?

LilEeyore
11-27-2005, 02:44 AM
depends on the day... sometimes he's superman, sometimes he's batman, sometimes he's Tarzman (tarzan) and sometimes he's cereal man LOL

DS is not a superhero...but he is a robot! Sometimes a baby robot. His baby sister is a crocodile and I am a Chicken Bock (whatever that is) so says the 2 year old master of the house.

Cereal has to contain raisins but basically is not for eating, but for blowing bubbles.

And speaking of bubbles, he has to play in the sink filled with bubbles EVERY DAY.

AND beware, there is some imaginary shark that is swimming around my house just waiting to get you. If you forget, DS will remind you 20 times a day.

I always think of the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson , "A child is a curly, dimpled lunatic!"

oh my gosh how true!!! LOL

Ok-- how wierd is this, he got to my coffee mug and drank quite a bit and it CALMED HIM DOWN. does that mean anything?

My sisters MIL used to give her children coffee to calm them down 'cuz they were hyper. Weird.

DS is usually buzz lightyear and wears his halloween costume everywhere. Or he's woody and has to wear boots and a hat. He was totally devastated on Wednesday 'cuz he decided he was chicken little -- his winter cap is red and orange and they wouldn't let him wear his hat at school all day long.

I actually heard that if you give a kid coffee and it calms them down it can be a sign of ADD. Something to think about.

11-28-2005, 01:07 PM
yeah,,, it has to do with the caffiene... go figure huh? My brother gives his to-be stepson coffee sometimes and it helps. We all think he has ADD & a speech disorder, but his school doesn't think so. His school has not been impressive to me with other stuff they've screwed up on though....

Yeah, my sons gone through the robot stage too off andon LOL... his robe he wears after his bath has robots on it.... so he thinks it's CALLED a robot.... kinda makes sense ...lol :)

Maybe it's just backwards in kids like some cough medicines that make adults drowsy may cause them to be restless and awake?

My almost 2 year old is a nut. She obsessed with the weirdest things. She also loves the vaccume and broom, and she sweeps all day and takes the dust pan to the garbage over and over, lol.

She holds on to anything you give her, she never loses anything because she won't let it go. Even if she is hanging onto a tiny piece of lint and she drops it, she'll look for it for 20 mins almost panicing. Once she can't find it though, she finds something else to hang onto.

She's a thief!! When I come home from work, she promtly takes my wallet out of my purse and empties it of all coins for her piggy bank.

She loves stickers, but not if they are sticking on her, she has a lil panic attack if they are stuck to her fingers, lol.

She loves to play in finger paint, but anytime ANYTHING else is on her hands, she comes running to me with a cloth to wipe them.

She doesn't like when you are not holding your coffee cup, and will take your hand and place it on the "cobbee".

She's obessed with her "toes", she like to hold her foot and try to push buttons with her toes. She tries to get the cats to kiss her toes. And she will sit there and say "tika tika tika" and tickle her own feet, lol.

Great ones, keep them coming!!!

Yes, i did read about the ADD and caffiene. There is really no doubt in my mind that he does have something along those lines.

BTW-- our vaccuum is broken and we had to take it to the "vaccumm doctor" today. a store full of vaccuum's-- he was in heaven. he can't stop talking about the sick vaccuum and the doctors. he had to give it a kiss to get better.

I think all 2 year olds show similar behaviors. It's just how intense they are and does the child really get fixated on it which could determine if there is a possible problem. When you say you could go on, I would suggest you look up PDD and see if there are any other behaviors your concerned about that fall under that criteria. PDD stands for Pervasive Developmental Disorder.

Two is usually the age it gets noticed because it's when you'r able to see what other kids are doing and gage it. It could be just typical two's but if you think it goes alittle deeper then look up PDD and see if there are any other signs. If so call a Developmental Pediatrician ASAP. Good Luck

My DS has to have everything done by him. Pour the drink, put the lid on, put his underwear on, put his pants on. The problem is that he is only 26.5 months old and he is not able to do these things. Very frustrating. I want to give him the independance however, sometimes we really need to leave the house. :jester:

jefferys mom--

thanks for the suggestion. i did look it up, and although he does have the fixation aspect on an unusual type of play or object, he shows nothing else. He actually tested about 6-9 months ahead developmentally at his 2 year check up. He is very very very social, understands not only verbal communication, but body language and deminers. If you are sad, he will pat your back and say...you ok?" if you are mad, he will say "calm down, it's alright' if you are happy he will say.."good job or good for you, you are good" he knows his pronouns, he she, we, I, his colors, count to 12 and knows most of the alphabet verbally as well as visual identification. he just has a knack for mechanical things. He puts the doctors instruments together (eye ligh shiny thing, ect...) and hands it to them..."here you go doctor..." they are amazed as they say the nurses have a hard time getting them together. he takes apart all of the toys with batteries (with a real screwdriver) and puts them back together-- with outside activities he rides a horse (a mini horse) 2x a week and knows all the cues to walk, turn and stop and he knows how to brush and care for his pony. he hugs it and kisses it and is very aware of respect as well as his place as a leader to his mini, but with kindness. I was worried about Autism, the doctors do not think that he has any symptoms. -- it was a very interesting read, thanks!

Just found this post - wish I found it sooner!

My daughter is 2 years, 9 mos. Right now, she's a PIRATE. Whenever she's in the bathtub, she puts the washcloth on her head, takes a corner of the washcloth and covers one eye, and says, "AAARRGGG!"

About 1000 times a day, she says, "Mom?" (I answer, "yes?") She continues with, "What's happening?"

We played hide & seek ONCE, about a month ago. Since then, about 1000 times a day, she says "I think Daddy's hiding." (Daddy is at work)

She doesn't like dried blueberries, blueberry oatmeal, or blueberry jam, but she loves blueberry yogurt. She inspects the spoonful to make sure there's at least one blueberry in it, before I can put it in her mouth. ??????
:dizzy:
I know I'll think of more.

My son, though not quite two is the strangest child I have ever met in my life. I have three children and have not gone through anything like this with the other two. He is very picky. If his food has a weird look, shape, or color, he does not eat it. He has to watch the doodle bops on a daily basis, and if you so much as move a piece of paper while he is watching it he very loudly insists you "sit down, be twiet" and follows that with a deffinate SHHHH. He thinks he is a dog, and has resported to placing his bowl on the floor and eating as such on more than one occasion. I find this quite embarassing sometimes, as he even tries to do it in resturaunts.

He likes the vacuum, but prefers to sweep and mop. He is a neat freak too. He came home the other day, and I had stuff sitting on the couch, he got this very disappointed look on his face, and said Uh oh mamma, as he is picking up my stuff. (No I am not obsessive compulsive about cleaning either). He takes it to extremes though. Lastnight he was opening a present, and he would take a piece of paper off his present, say uh oh, get up and take it to the trash. And repeated it. took him about 30 minutes to open one present.
He is very smart though he can take apart his toys and put them back together. He is obsessed with turning things on and off, and opening and closing windows.

I think its cute, but alot of people ask me if he has issues. LOL

LOLOLOL!!! Bavilion!!!
That was great. I could just see my boy doing the same thing with the paper! We actually had "Santa" leave his new baby Dyson on the front porch. DH had jingle bells and he shook them real loud. the whole house got quiet so he could hear and we all exclaimed "oh my!!! sounds like Santa is outside!!!" Caden ran to the door and with some help it opened for him to see the vacuum. he gasped in so much joy, it brought tears to my eyes. He was not interested in any other present, wouldn't even look at one. he vacuumed the rest of the night, which was good, because he was getting a little crazy with trying to open everyone's present and becoming very upset if he couldn't do it. Santa made a second visit over night and brought a big huge plush rocking horse on springs. he said, "oh hi horsey, where is my vacuum?" and proceeded to vacuum the rest of the day. so now he has 3 vacuums. i guess there could be worse things.

Zaya-- hey there hun!!! great to hear from you!! hope all is well with you and yours!

I hope everyone had a great Holiday and here is to a wonderful new year!!! even if it is full of vacuuming!

LOL.....

Mine is going through this phase where everything has to be his idea. For instance, I'll offer him his milk in the morning and he'll whine and throw himself on the floor and push it away. So I say "Okay, you don't want your cup, so no cup!" and start to walk away. Then he says "CUP! I need cup!" Same with night night kisses. EVERY NIGHT I say "give mommy kisses" he says "No" and I say "Okay, no kisses" and walk out the door. Right about the time I close the door I hear him say "Kisses! Kisses!!!!"

He just finished a Blue's Clue's obsession, during which EVERYTIME he found a peice of paper and something to write with or he'd be coloring he'd bring it to me begging "Pawpwint! Pawpwint!" and I'd have to draw about a million pawprints. After I'd finish a pawprint, he'd just point to it and say "A pawpwint! Tank Yuuuuuuu"

He has an 9 month old baby sister and enjoys crawling around in the floor saying "Dadadadadada" or "Gagagaga"

He is also OBSESSED with Thomas the Tank Engine. This child has ZERO attention span, but he's done nothing since christmas but play with his new train set.

LOL siren!

Because i live in England, there is a show called tweenies, my 2 year old used to be obsessed over it. Every time she got up (she would know the times, or something, or she can read a clock, i don't know lol...but my 11 year old has been trying to teach her math  )she would turn on the T.V and act as if the tv was made for kareoke (spelling?) cause she would sing along with the characters "hey! Hey! What do you say? It's time to come and play with the Tweenies!" She has these tweenie toys and she plays with them all the time, her twin plays "bella" and she plays "Fizz". Sometimes they play games because theygot this kitchen thingy that came with like plastic pans and fake sweetcorn and things and she pretends to be cooking her sister breakfast it is so cute because she puts a cloth in a pan (not a real pan lol)and puts the plastic sweetcorn in her toy washing machine ... But thats 2 yr olds for ya! Wierd, but wonderful kids ;)

I can't tell you how glad I am to hear all of you posting about your 2 year old boys. My 2 year old and the one I babysit both do things like you have posted. The boy I babysit would vacuum all day if you let him and almost took apart our crib with only a screw driver. And my 2 yearold "is" Batman. He wears the mask and cape for a better part of the day. He is also picky about his juice cup and how his stuffed animals are arranged in his bed. He also will only wear super hereo shirts. We have 4 kids all together and I have to say our little one definitly has his own opinion on things. Makes things interesting, but can also be very difficult at times.

My son is 6 now, but reading this just brought back some fond memories of my son at the wonderful age of 2!

When my son was 2, he was Simba for Halloween (his choice). When he was 3, he was Simba again (his choice). Between the ages of 2 and 3, he perfected running on all fours and growling (in public mind you) to look and sound like a lion. Sometimes he had his costume on and sometimes he didn't (there was about a 4 month span though that he had that costume on every single day)!!!

My two year is very odd

*she is afraid of grass
*she is just getting over her extreme fear of water (including bathwater) she has been showered most of her life because of this one
*she is mortified of bubblegum....my mother blew a bubble for her once and she wouldnt be in the same room as her for three days
*everything pretend thing growels including bunnies and unicorns
*she refused to open any of her presants at Christmas but was ok helping my sister open all of hers. When she did finally open hers (with help) she was totally fixated on a little plastic Dora and has been carrying it around ever since
*She is obsessed with rubber duckies (we are up too 11 now I think) She will not go to bed without at least one ducky. If we are in a store, at playgroup, or someones house she will find any duckies that might be there and instantly claim them as her own (you can imagine the problems this creates)

I have more but we are taking turns here :)

My DS also has some crazy irrational fears. The first is the SHOWER. OMG. One day we stayed at a motel with no bathtub and we had to toss him in the shower and he was TERRIFIED. Climbing the walls. Now if he's even in the same room when you turn the shower on he runs away screaming "ALL GONE!!! ALL GONE!" He's deathly afraid of haircuts and we have to put him in a full nelson to even give him a trim. That's why he's so stinking shaggy right now. He also hates the vaccuum cleaner, the lawnmower, the hair dryer, anything that makes weird noises. If you tell him "Cal, you need a haircut." He says "haircut all gone!!!"

DS started a new one. The answer to everything is I don't know. Example; What color is this? I don't know.... green. By the way the correct answer is almost always followed by I don't know. This answer applies to everything including non questions like put on your coat or grab your towel. He also occasionally watches tv in my room and I will be in the living room. I will regularly ask what are you doing? Everytime he says I'm right here or now it's I don't know.....I'm right here. I am puzzled to think they all grow up to be rational people with their funny little quirks. It's halarious to be around.
