I have heard from a few other FM sufferers that Smoking is just plain BAD. Can someone extrapolate? Give me the scoop!

Thanks and my prayers are for all!

OH, I wish i could help, I'm right here with you wondering how to quite, i've turned into a chain smoker since i never leave the house and am bored. boredom does more damage i think than m fibro at times! I'd love love to quit. i asked my doc if it affects firbro and he says no, but he still said it's good to quit. all docs say that, i know it's true though. fibroi is enough i don't want lung cancer either. i smoke 2 packs a day. it's horrible. depression is why really i think more than boredom. or maybe a combo of both, the only way to quit from what my sister says is cold turkey or wellbutrin/zyban which is the same thing, my dad says the patch, each person has to figure out which works best for them, most importantly you have to really want to quit or nothing will work.
good luck you to,

Hi Ladies: Yes smoking is bad, even for fibro. The smoke reaches all parts of the body. I am no angel, I smoke too, but ever since I have been on the Baclofen I have lost my desire to smoke, (not altogether though), I have smoked for 44 years, a pack or more a day, now I am down to 2-3 cigs a day, and it takes me all day to smoke them, I take a puff and put it out. It seems everything is bad for us, especially aspertame as well. Good luck, have a good day today.

Hi again: I just posted a post then I remembered something else. This pharmacist said your muscles need oxygen also. I enjoy a smoke, even though I am down to nil, fibro has robbed me everything, so I think I am entitled to one vice. I cannot go out to socialize, shopping either, unless I am in a wheelchair and my son or sons are with me, I don't cook anymore. I manage cleaning when I have taken my night time meds. They help a lot with the pain but my housework is still not to my satisfaction. I live alone, which is downright depressing (forgot I do have my little pooch), trips to the dr are a social event for me. I am getting depressing, sorry, just vented a little. Take care of yourself.

Hiya,

yeah, a smoker here, too, tho' ONLY (haha!) 5-6 cigs a day - unless it's a baaaaaad day, then more. I think one of the worst effects for fibromites is the lack of cellular oxygen created by smoking. Smoking really reduces the amount of oxygen the body is able to absorb from the blood, and for us, it just compounds an already tenuous scenario. Lack of oxygen in the muscle and fascia tissue can lead to exacerbated pain, which is why exercise is BENEFICIAL to fibromites. Exercise gets the O2 pumping thru our muscles, and increases pain-reducing endorphin release.

Hope that answers some of your question.

Well I guess alot of us are in the same boat again. I hate it for you(us) that we smoke, I've smoked almost 20 years.
What is Baclofen? If it helps you quit or even cut way down, I'd love to try it.

yea i smoke too :( and yes i think it has alot to do with boredom like one poster said. i dont cook anymore either. takes me all day to do a few loads of clothes cause i stop and rest in between folding and putting away. over the thanksgiving holidays, there were 4 parties in my family. i missed 2 of them and attended the other two for an hour only. seems i can take only so much of noise, laughing ,kids running sceaming, plates clanking and tv on. its like the extra noise just irritates my skin or something, my nerves. i dont know which, just makes it very uncomfortable to be in so much noise. while im at home, usually tv is on low, but i get bored and even tho i wake up with intentions of stop smoking THAT day, i find myself reaching for one and going out to the patio.

what a relief to know i am not the only one still self destructing with the worst pacifier that is legal. i notice a marked decrease in my oxygen levels after i puff away. i smoked for 30 years, quit for 4 and have been back at it for 5 years. ouch. i buy organic tobacco with no filter and break them in half. a pack lasts me 5 days.
i refuse to buy more before i am out. that way i still have to think about it.
i skip a couple of days in between and have not noticed any withdrawal symptoms other than mental. during those days my energy level is so much higher you would think i would get the message. doubtful.
quitting is my winter goal. like everything else quitting takes a change in attitude. where did that cocky broad go that quit so easily less than a decade ago? she is in here somewhere, dig dig . . . i do wish she would quit hiding from me, giggle. i am so full of it.
and she falls off the chair laughing at her own ability to blame some other aspect of self for her weakness. oh, tee hee!!!
peace on earth,

Hi everybody, I have been away for a few days and wow how there are alot more faces here. Good!!! We can always use more company. I think that fibro has taken so much of our lives that smoking is the only sinful thing that we can do. For me I think it is my mind telling me that fibro has stolen so much from me that it can't take this too. How stupid is that!! It's like a little kid throwing a fit in a toy store. You are right, being lonely only intensifies the urge. Loneliness is weird, when people are around me I just wish that they would leave and then when they leave I get lonely. Makes no sense at all. I hope everybody at least got a full tummy this holiday.
Take care, Avrod

You won"t die from Smoking,But you might die from 2 hand smoke. Quitting you find out just how stinky smoke is on peoples clothes. YUCK........You also find out how many women REALLY over do the parfume!!!!! Your teeth will be whiter and brighter!! And YOU still will want one of those darn stinky things sticking out of your face makeing wrinkles, and makeing you smell bad.
ANYONE GOT A CIG??? gone without for 10 days :D

Good to know I have company. I am in the process of trying very hard to stop.
The worst for me is that my anxiety level goes sky-high, and I have to keep on moving around and doing things with hands until I can hardly bear to pick anything up again.
Being alone - I guess a cig is company, too.

Anyone aconfirmed ex-smoker, please tell me if the anxiety gets better with time, and how long it might take, thanks,

after 30 years of smoking i quit. it amazed me how easy it was that time. i know if i put my mind to as i did then, i will make it. hangin i am so proud of you.
would you believe i actually forgot cigarettes existed during those years of being a nonsmoker? honest. so i know there is freedom on the other side of addiction. like hangin says, the smell. i never smoke indoors and since i shave my head most people do not even know i am a closet smoker.
hangin, i wanted to tell you i ran out of little smokeroos yesterday and decided not to buy another pack. attitude, determination, attitude. my mantra for the next few days, giggle.
love ya kids,

bluelake good for you. just think of what a wonderful new year you have given yourself. Thats the best present ever. I wish I could. I stopped to 5 days this last summer. The first couple of days was so easy I would think to myself, 'wow what was everybody talking about this is a sinch'. but on the 3-5 day I was dying and started again. That is the only time I have ever stopped. I don't smoke in my house and I don't smoke around my daughters. They know I smoke but just something about them seeing a nasty cig in my mouth would make me feel horrible.
Good for You Horaay

You won't have to worry about CHF,COPD,Lung CA. Being able to breathe.
I have smoked since I was 15. I'm 54 now. I have CHF, along with fibro.emph.
RA,diebetes.
You sound like me. I never went out and got in trouble, etc. So I just figured that I made supper-I deserved a cig. I did laundry-I deserved a cig. I was upset about something or someone- I deserved a cig.I didn't drink, run around, steal, treat myfamily bad,-I deserved a cigarette.
Well, I guess I did deserve all those cigaretes, So I also deserve the CHF. I'm young and have a husband, grown kids, grandkids, They deserve for me to quit to be around for the graduations, birthdays, births, weddings.
So now I'm hopeing I deserve , to not have a heart attack, stroke or die before I can attend the birthdays, weddings, graduations and maybe a great grandbaby or two.
hope this answers your question. IT HELPS YOU,YOUR FAMILY, YOUR LIFE.

hi kids,
checking in. it is day 3 without running off to the store and buying tobacco. i am amazed how much energy i have. i fixed the kitchen sink, finally! now i can use that little hose thingy.
every time my little, creepy, nasty voice starts talking i cut her off right away. the answer is no. determination and attitude are my helpmates.
now, tee hee, where did i put my wonder woman suit? gonna need that, giggle.
peace and freedom, long life, and the breath to blow out 100 candles some day!

Smoking is especially bad for people with fibromyalgia or anyone who suffers an illness. First it deprives your body of oxygen, nicotene causes you to sleep more lightly, and the additives in cigarettes are all poisonous. You wouldn't lick rat poison, would you? You are smoking it when you smoke cigarettes, and about a hundred other things that are equally bad. I don't want to seem like an anti-smoking zealot. I too enjoy one every now and again, though I wouldn't consider myself a smoker. I just wanted to impart information upon you.

Take care
