My 4 year old son just started doing this. I only noticed it when we go some where and on the way home he would fall asleep. When we get home I wake him up to get out and his legs are stiff and he has trouble walking for a couple of minutes. Is it nothing to be worried about or should I talk to his doctor about it. Has anyone else experience this?

I just realized that the shoes I had on my 18 month old weren't wide enough. I kept checking the size for length...he still had a good 1/4 inch more to grow in the toe. He couldn't walk after being in the car seat or high chair. Poor guy. I feel so bad that his little blood was pooling in his feet and he couldn't communicate the problem. Since not wearing those shoes he's been fine. I'm going to have to get wide shoes for him from now on. Hopefully you will have a simple solution like ours.

ALWAYS mention stiffness to your pediatrician. [That is if his/her shoes are the right fit.]
An evaluation of his lower joints should be done to rule out any possible issues.
Let me know if I can answer any more questions - my son has JRA.

Hi,
I posted my sons problems with knees, hips etc, and he too has a hard time getting out of the vehicle and walking after sitting for a time.Stiffness in his legs! Im going to have him checked by a specialist. Better to be safe than sorry.

Hey dot368,
Just curious if you had made an appt with his ped. to discuss his stiffness yet.
I'm curious to see what happens.
Post back when you can.
