mt 6 week old DS was just put on baby zantac for possible reflux. Hes been seeming like hes been in alot pain lately so hopefully this will help him. I just started it today and was wondering if anyone elses baby has tried this and what their thoughts and experience is on it. I read the side effects and it scared me, though the Dr says the side effects are rare and not to worry, being a new mommy of course I worry about Everything! Thanks for any info you have! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!!

My DD was put on zantac at like 3 weeks or so. She did alot better once the meds where in her system. She wasn't in any pain any more. You could tell if i had forgetten to give her the meds. Oh main. Last year during christmas money had been really tight and i was able to get it refilled right way. It was a day or so. She was just screaming horriblly and i didn't know why. So i thought well maybe its that and went right away and got if filled and then she was all better. I know what a horrible mother for not getting her babies meds refilled. I felt horrible. They took her off of it at nine months. She was put back on it by another ped about 1 month ago. We have been having alot of problems with ear infections since aug and she thinks that she still has the reflux and that is not helping with the draining from her ears. Our experince has been good with this and it will make your baby feel much better. We had friends whose baby had reflux and their doctor refused to put him on meds until he was six months old. They said they had the worst first six months because he didn't feel well. Once they got him on the meds it was alot better.

Thanks! That makes me feel alot better. My well meaning parents were making me feel bad for putting him on it, they thought it was bad for him and I was taking the easy way out for myself. But the only reason Im doing it is for him. I hate it when hes in pain and crying, it breaks my heart. Im glad to hear it worked so well for you. Thanks again.

How do you administer the zantac? Last week my 3 week old DD was put on zantac that I gave to her using a medicine dropper. It tasted soooo bitter. I tried it myself and could barely stand the taste. She cried and gagged to take it 3 times a day. I felt terrible giving it to her and watching her scowl and gag. What are your experiences with the taste?
I did not see improvement in one week, so my doctor changed the prescription. Did zantac take longer than one week to work for you? We'll see how this week goes with the new med. I hate to see her in pain!

Also, how are you having your baby sleep? Mine does not show improvement when I keep her elevated in a bouncy seat. I'm constantly holding her and wondering when I'll be getting relief from carrying her and holding her up. When I put her down, she begins to have pain and makes gurgling/spitting up sounds. She kicks and writhes around from the pain. Thanks for your input!

I give my DD the zantac right before i begin the bottle. This way she can chase it down right away. Someone suggested i put it in the bottle, but there is no guarantee that she will always finish a bottle. It does smell horrible and i do hate giving it to her but it definately seems to help. As far as sleeping goes, I usually have her fall asleep on me in the upright position and wait til shes in a deep slepp and then lay her down. I also give her the medicine about her 7:00 feeding and this helps her sleep too.

I was also told not to put it in her bottle b/c then they may refuse to take their bottles. It could make her bottle taste funny. My DD has been on this med since she was like 2 or 3 weeks old. She started taking it fine then. Now it just routine for her. She is 14 months old now and takes it like a pro. She was off of it between 9-13 months old and then put back on it and still takes it just great. When our DD was little she slept in her carseat which we put inside of her bassinet or her swing alot. Once she was on the meds for awhile then she went to her bed and did fine. My DD was also on reglan when she was littler.
