About 2 weeks ago I started getting flashes of light and blind spots in both eyes, but not blind spots any particular place on my eye, they move constantly like the flashes of light do. It is the same thing as a migraine aura. I have chronic migraine headaches, but I rarely get the aura. However I just figured this was one of those rare times. But over the past 2 weeks it's gotten a little worse possibly, definately no better. Another weird thing is that if I get closer to things it does become easier to see, but it's still not very clear . After that point, if I get closer it gets harder to see. I'm trying to get in to my Ophthalmologist on Tuesday, but I was wondering what this could be? I'm kind of paniking because I am deaf and before this my left eye was 20/200 and uncorrectable, my right eye wasn't measureable without correction but was corrected to 20/50. So you can see why I'm worried about my eyes. I've been *technically* Deaf-blind for years, but had enough site to function as a fully sighted person just fine. Now I don't. Any info would be much appreciated

Hi (again) Pip. As you probably know, the greatest danger with those symptoms is a retinal detachment. But, because you have the flashes and blind spots in both eyes, it's probably not that. The odds are against a detachment occurring in both eyes at the same time.
Migraine symptoms can change over time and some people have constant auras.
Vitreous detachment, which is not serious, can also cause those symptoms.
Guess you'll have to see what your ophth says on Tuesday.

Thanks for the reply, Torre :) I didn't know Migraine aura could be constant...but I have chronic, almost constant, Migraine headaches so I guess it makes sense :jester: If this were a Migraine Aura, do you know if there are any meds for it or correction? I take Axert for my M. headaches, but it doesn't seem to help my eyes

Wow, thanks for the info!
I've discovered something odd...without my glasses the flashes of light and blind spots don't bother me as much. My vision is much worse without my glasses and I have to get closer to things, but I seem to be able to adjust to see better without my glasses than with them. Does that make any sense? So right now I'm going back and forth wearing them and not wearing them, depending on whether blurry vision or blind spots make whatever I'm looking at harder to see.
I did get an appt. with my Ophthalmologist tomorrow, so hopefully I'll find out something then

Hi Pip-
I check these boards on occasion and your post struck me! I have been posting for over a year with similiar symptoms and haven't found much info. Since last August, when I had my first ocular migraine- I have had the following symptoms almost daily:
-small blind spots in my vision (black spots) that occur very quickly and disappear just as quickly in various places
-small flashes of colored spots (usually blue or red)
-clear wavy strings that happen primarily in bright lights (possibly floaters)
-distorted vision when I focus on something for too long, particularly a computer screen
-my eyes seem to "hold on" to bright images longer than I remember in the past
I have had CT, CT-A, MRI, MR-A- I have seen my rheumatologist (I have fibromyalgia), my GP, a neuro, a neuro-opthalmologist, a opthalmologist and a retinal specialist. Nothing to be found! I suppose that it's good, but it's very frustrating!
Good luck- just wanted you to know you are not alone!

Latte, It IS very frustrating! But good to know I'm not alone...nor am I crazy :jester: How is your vision otherwise? Are these symptoms continuous for you or intermittant? How do you cope with not being able to see things because of dancing blind spots *G* ?
Off to my doctor appointment, I'll post later if I find anything out

Hi there!
How did things go?
My vision is horrible- I have -6.0 vision in both eyes + astigmatism. I deal with the spots as best as I can. There are times I break down and think there must be something horrible causing this and they just haven't found it- and other days where I figure there isn't anything I can do- so I suck it up!
It's not fun- I can tell you that much! :(

Hi Latte! I posted another thread called "I saw the Ophthalmologist today" I'm not sure if even links to other posts in this forum is allowed, so I won't try :nono:
The doc found nothing wrong with my eyes to cause the problems, so I'm to see a Neurologist. My vision in both eyes is beyond 20/400, they just write 20/CF for that, they didn't take the time to test it - but I could count fingers at about 12 inches with my right eye and 6 inches with my left. With my glasses I can see 20/400 in my right eye, left eye nothing helps. My rx in the right eye is -4.25, but nothing greater helped
I am finding that my glasses make the blind spots stand out and sometimes it's easier on my eyes to not wear them and just get closer to things (altho the glasses don't help much). Do you find this, also?
