Hello fellow members: If anyone is on Neurontin I would like to know if it works for them. I am currently on 200mg and it is not helping. Thank you :)

hi still,
hi sweet pea, how you doing?
i take it. have for about 6 years. i started on 600mg. we worked me up to 1500mg and i have weaned myself down to 900mg and have held that for about 2 years.
my doc says if i took more it would help me more. she is right. i just don't want to right now. i can handle the pain and muscle spasms that do break thru. at least the twitches in my face stop at this dose.
as far as i know the pills come in 300mg. are you sure of your dose? do you take it at bedtime or during the day or both?
peace on earth,
bluelakelady

I took neurontin approx 8 yrs ago.. I was taking 1100mg a day .. and I was working.. unfortunately for me.. it helped the pain but killed my short term memory.. ( not a good thing as I was in Human Resources and was interviewing!) I do however know lots of people who take it and it works fine for them and without too many side effects

Thanks Blue: I just started 200mg today, upped it myself from 100mg. I feel like I am going nuts, I am also on Percocet and other meds and I am scared it is too much. Plus I am waiting for the Ixel to kick in. It is so hard for me to get relief from anything. I am rambling now. Thanks loads for answering my question though. Luv ya

Hi, I know how you feel. I take Neurontin when i flare, when my skin burns. When i first started taking it, I took 300 to 600 mg 4 times a day and i couldn't drive. But then i got used to it. I tapered down but it took a long time because the burning would come back. I also take it with percocet.
Keep the faith,
Donna

Hi Stillgoin,
I have been on Neurontin for about a year. From what I understand you build yourself up to a higher dose as you are doing.
I take 300 mg 2X daily and 600 at night. THe one thing I have noticed is that it helps me sleep, esp. at the beginning when I first was taking it.
In my reading about it the dose you are on is very low. Do you feel any bad side effects from it? I wasn't sure if that was a problem for you. If not I would talk with your doctor about taking a higher dose. Neurontin has a pretty good track record for some people. It also took a while for me to notice any difference. For me it was very subtle.
Good luck and take care.
Peace and love, Hangin

 Hello there stillgoin. I was on Neurontin for a while but it was not helping so I quit taking it. I am not sure if you are aware of this or if your doctor informed you of this but.....Neurontin is actually used for seizure patients. It's an anti seizure drug. So please be VERY cautious of this medication. If you are on it for a while and just abruptly stop taking it, it could cause a seizure. I have been told by some GP's and Neurologists both who disagree with the use of this medication for Fibro.
As we all know there are so MANY symptoms with Fibro. It's hard to treat "Fibro". You have to treat each and every intity in itself seperately. You can't treat it as a whole. That's the difficult part of this disease.
If only there were a solution or a cause for this terrible, chronic thing that plagues us on a daily basis.
If only they could get to the root of the source behind Fibro. I've heard and read so many different things. ..from depression to links with the kidneys.
If it were depression then anti depression meds would cure it. As a matter of fact , I told my doctor just that!!! :nono: He made a snyde remark once that I was perfectly healthy and I just had Fibro. I told him I'd keep telling myself that. I also told him that I think Fibro is a term they throw around too losely because they can't figure out what the real problem is or too lazy to get to the source. I told him I know I'm not getting any younger (36) but there are people in there 60's out there playing tennis and golf...so he could save the b*@#! for someone else.
Didn't mean to get off the subject. Fibro is a very touchy subject with me. I've pretty much lost my entire life to this dreaded thing. It struck me in my mid 20's and has only gotten worse. I REALLY hope the Neurontin works for you. Just PLEASE be careful. There are a lot of doctors who don't care about your well being. It all comes down to $$$$. They don't care about it until it happens to them. That's all....
Take care and I hope you are feeling better really SOON!!!!

neurontin is scripted for restless leg syndrome. yes is was initally created for seizures. a sudden stop of any medication that is cumulitive is not advisable.
how are you feeling to day my still goin friend. your name always evokes an image of the energizer bunny and i giggle.

I've been on Neurontin 900 mgm at bedtime. I was nodding off in the car and the Rhematologist figured he had to find something to make me sleep. He started on 1200 but I was in a fog all day. 900 mgm seemed to work better, but then he had to add Ambien. The neurontin has gotten rid of the worst of the pain.

I just started neurontin again. Too much and I have no memory, plus I think it makes me hungry. I am also type 2 diabetes which doesn't help. Otherwise, I lose track of everything and feel like I'm in a fog. Sure did help me sleep. On a low dose my leg pain is still present. I am so discouraged. Yourkie :p

I took it for a few months after I had surgery on my neck. It seemed to help some but made me eat everything that was not nailed down. Finally my doc switched me to Gabitril and I LOVE it. I can tell a huge difference when I'm not taking it. Although I haven't been diagnosed w/ FM yet I still had horrible muscle/nerve pain from my neck injury......that's why I was prescribed neurontin and gabitril.
I take 2 (4mg) gabitril at night.

I had significant memory problems, eating in the middle of the night, and feelings of paranoia and severe depression. In short neurotin madee me neurotic; doing much better on cymbalta.

I had been taking neurontin for about a year but after a while I don't even know if it works anymore. Sometimes I get to the point of taking so many different things that I don't know what is working.
I started going off the neurontin and found that my memory is improving. Now I take 300 in am and 300 in pm. This week is going to be my last week on it. It will be interesting to see if my memory keeps improving.
Take care everyone.
Peace and love, Hangin

I take Topamax, which is in the same family, and that's wonderful. I eased into 100 mgs last summer. Just now I'm starting to adjust to it and need more. It does have side effects, but I've adjusted to most of those and find the pain relief worth it.
