I have a very curvy hourglass figure, and i weigh about 160 lbs., but only look about 135-140...because i'm not a "big girl." My measurments are about 38-28-38 I read on ivillage.com that hourglasses shouldn't do kickboxing or intense aerobic exercising, because it can make you lose your curvy houglass shape. is this true? I was going to order the "TURBO JAM" exercise tabes...which is like a dance/kickboxing video. IF i do this everyday for 20 mins...with light weight training mixed with aerobics on weekends, will I lose my hourglass shape? Im worried this will happen because that's what it said on ivillage.com under the artcile "HOURGLASS PROFILE." I don't want to lose much weight...just like 10 lbs- but i more just want to tone my figure. Can i do this without losing my shape? And will I always have an hourglass shape no matter what, or is this true that you can lose it? I have really been worrying and obsessing, haha. Thanks girlS!!!!

Hourglass shape is due to 1) genetic bone structure and 2) "girl fat" in the hips - which is just where we tend to carry a lot of it. There is no specific exercise that will take away the hourglass shape, but if you start to lose fat, you may lose some of the curves. You will still stay proportional, but as you lose overall fat, the curves may shrink a bit as well. If you are naturally curvey, you don't have too much to worry about. A little healthy weight training and aerobics should be just fine with no significant effect on your figure.

Don't worry about losing your basic shape. It will always be there. It's yours for life unless you do something drastic like plastic surgery. You will have an hour glass figure even if you lose lots of weight. "Hour glass" figure simply means that you are evenly proportioned with your bust and hips being about same measurement and the waist about 10 inches less than the top and bottom measurements. Go ahead and do whatever is necessary to make your body toned. A toned hour glass figure is definitely better than a flabby one.
