View Full Version : Intermittent Stomach Pain. Any Ideas?

the past 3 days I was feeling perfectly fine when suddenly out of nowhere I would get an intense, sharp, stabbing pain about to fingers to the right of my breastbone. They have always been very sudden bursts that last only 2 or 3 seconds at the most. They only happened once or twice in a 24 hour period and always while I was working.

Then yesterday morning(I work 3rd shift), I was on my last break when I stood up to go back to work and I had a very dull, sudden ache in my left kidney area. At first I thought it was a kidney infection as I've had those before. However, as the day went on, it got worse and to the point where it felt like it was radiating from my hip joint. Moving certain ways would send the pain either up the left side of my back or down the back of my left thigh.

I was finally able to get a little sleep for a few hours but when I awoke, I had this gnawing pain, like a dull cramp at the top of my abdomen. It seemed to get worse over the next hour or so until I eventually vomited. Even that only gave me minimal relief. I ended up staying home from work and spent the entire night dealing with the pain in my hip and in my stomach. The stomach pain seems to come and go now but when it comes it can get pretty intense. sort of like a ripping feelingat the base of my breast bone. I can alos occasionally feel gas gurgling around there.

I've got a DR. appt. tomorrow morning but this pain is driving me crazy. I tried eating a bit and my stomach seemed to feel ok for a little while but then the pain came right back eventually. I'm thinking ulcer. any ideas? thanks so much in advance!!!

That sounds a bit like my mother-in-laws symptoms last year...turned out she was having gall bladder attacks...might want to mention this possibility to your Dr.

Hope everything works out!
