Hi Everyone,

This is my first time here. Here's my situation. I am 50 years old in peri menopause. I haven't had a period since June (I don't miss em). My body is doing lots of strang things. What's up with the buzzing in my foot. That's right I said buzzing, it is at the ball of my foot and it is like an electrical charge every 3-5 seconds. I also get internal tremors, no one told me about that either. My feet get pins and needles and numb sensations. I also have started getting occular migraines in the last year. I was scared something serious was going on Gone to neurologist had things checked out there.

I guess I always thought when a woman went through menopause she would have hot flashes, mood swings and her periods would stop (maybe an extra hair or two on her chin) and that would be that. Does any one else get thes strange sensations or am I just loopy? Thanks!

Hi Bonib,
Welcome. I have had many different menopause related symptoms but not buzzing in my feet. I have had something like that but it is caused from my Sciata nerve in my back. Do you have back problems? The Sciata nerve runs all the way down your leg to your foot. Sorry this isn't much help but it was the first thing that came to mind. Maybe someone else will answer with the same issue.

As for the migraines that could be hormone related. I have had a problem with migraines a few years ago. They have been better now. I am taking an HRT so my hormones are more level right now. Take care.

Hi Bonnie,
I also had the pins & needles in my feet, sometimes a little numb sensations and what I called internal shakes - it's just the inside of my body is in constant anxiety, nervous, jittery feeling. Hated it! Hard to describe many of these symptoms but it's all menopausal related. Don't scare yourself into thinking you have something going on - it does nothing but make you have anxiety. I strongly recommend you hang around these boards, accept the fact that you're getting old and going thru this, get these books "The Pause" and "Before the Change" - these are my two favorite books - easy to read. Get your thyroid checked too. In the "Before the Change" book, she lists all the supplements you can take for symptoms that you are having - she calls it peri-zappers. I swear by Magnesium and Evening Primrose so I think you definitely should start taking that. Most drs. don't know that much about menopause - they think we get only hot flashes - there are so many strange symptoms that come on suddenly and all med tests are always normal. I wished I found this board when I was going thru my ordeal, it would have saved me from freaking out.

by the way, welcome!

Julie and Molly,

Thank you for responding. Julie-actually i do have back pain and have had it for quite a while. Recently I had an mri of my neck due to upper back paing and headaches and discovered that i have a herniated disk and about 4 bulging discs. I have been wondering if I could possible hav sciatica Be cause I do get zaps in my arms which I assume are due to Herniated disc in the neck.

Molly I take Natural Calm every evening.(Magnesium citrate) It has really cut down on the hot/cold flashes and the internal shakes. I also have been sleeping a lot better since I started it.

Thanks to both of you for your input it has really helped.

Hello and welcome! I know exactly what you are talking about with the "buzzing foot". That and muscle twitches about drove me crazy! If you do a search of these boards on "buzzing foot" you will be amazed at how many other people have had the same complaint. :)

Newbie,

I think you are the first person to have the foot buzzing thing. Sorry that you have it , but I am sooo relieved some one else has had this sensation. Do you still have it? Did you ever notice if anything would trigger it? I'm just curious.

Julie and Mollie I forgot to say thank you very much for the welcome! I have a feeling I will be here for a while with all kinds of questions. My family consist of my husband and my son. So I don't have anyone there that is going to understand.

Thanks again!

Bonnie

Bonnie,

Before I found this board I thought I would have to be admitted to a padded room. LOL. Anyway, these women have had such compassion and understanding that it has made all the difference. I feel like a new person in many ways. I'm glad a few more people that have had the same problem (the buzzing foot) have given some words of wisdom. At least when you don't feel alone it helps. Take care and I'm sure we will talk again.

Hi Bonnie! I still get the buzzing occasionally, but very lightly (knock on wood). I am on a hormone patch and I think that is what cleared it up. I am pretty sure it is related to low estrogen levels. I would wake up in the night and my left foot would feel like it had a motor in it. It was the strangest thing! It would buzz, then stop, then buzz again. I know I was very relieved when I posted on here and found out that other people had the same thing!

Julie and Newbie,

Julie, you are so right about not feeling so alone. I felt better once I got responses and words of experience from others. I feel like I have a whole new perspective on my symptoms.

Newbie, WOW! You were sooo right I did the search on foot buzzing. I was amazed at how many people have this. There does seem to be a common thread to it. A lot of these people are in menopause. I can't tell you how reassuring that was to see that. I think I am now ready to stop fixating on the buzz.

I know now that before I start to worry to much about anything to post it on here first. Thank you all!

Guess what! I have the foot buzzing thing too in my left foot on the side. I have had it for a while, and just assumed it was a nervous thing to go along with my anxiety, sometime that twitching just drives me crazy and it will do all day and then stop and then pick up the next day. Both of you are right it does help to read this board and people are so nice about helping you.

I have to add one more thing, I too felt the same way IC HOT felt, my next stop had to be a padded room, until I found this board, when i have my sleepless nights this is where i come.

Cindy,

Welcome to the foot buzzing club. ( does that make us old buzzards?) I have to agree with the padded room idea as well. I'm glad the patch is helping you. I just had an fsh drawn today so I'm hoping it will tell me something about where I am at in this menopause. Maybe Dr. will put me on some hormones and that will help some of my symptoms. Take care and thanks for your input.

Bonnie
