View Full Version : Mucus in poo

Hello All, I really hope this isn't too much info but I'm looking for an opinion on what could be wrong with my little girl, if anything. She's always spat up quite a lot of milk but on Monday she was really bad and was bringing up lots of milk repeatedly. She normally goes down for the night at 9pm but it took us until 10.45pm because every time we put her down she cried and threw up more milk. Yesterday she seemed fine. Today she seems quite cheerful and is feeding ok but I noticed that her poo had mucus in it. She's also been really fighting sleep today - she's been awake since 8.30am and I've just got her down to take a nap now (3.30pm). Surely it's not normally for a 4month old baby to be awake for a 7 hour stretch?!

Any thought or opinions? I don't want to bother the doctor if I'm just being paranoid mum!

Hi Spanish,

I have a 5 month old, and I know of it was me, I would probably call the dr. More than likely the dr won't care that you called. But even if they did, too bad. You are the mom and need to feel comfortable in knowing your little girl is ok. Sounds like maybe she has a little bug of some sort. Maybe just put a call in to the dr, and explain what's going on, and they can probably guide you from there. And the fact that she's doing better means if it was a bug, it's finally ran it's course and is going away. Just wondering if she had any sort of a fever? I don't think your being a paranoid mom, just a loving and caring one :)

I agree with andilyn about putting a call into the DR. I actually just saw a show about "what pediatricians wish parents knew" It was with a group of pediatricians, And one thing was they DON'T mind it when parents call, DAY OR NIGHT, that they expect it from you once in awhile, and it's part of their job.

You're your childs advocate, and her only voice, so at anytime you feel something is not right...by all mean call. As the old saying goes "It's better to be safe then sorry"

I hope she turns out to be fine! Let us know!

Hi All. Thanks for your replies. I spoke to my Health Visitor and she said that she had probably had a bit of a tummy upset but as she was happy and otherwise in good health it was nothing to worry about. She's not weaned yet and is totally breastfed so she said it was probably a bit of a bug. She's absolutely fine now. Like you all said she was quite happy that I'd called and said to always call if I was worried. :-)
