View Full Version : Blepharitis

I saw an eye doctor a few years ago because I had a blood spot in the white of one of my eyes. He said I had Blepharitis but there was no need to treat it.A few months later I made an appointment with an Opthamologist to have my eyes examined because they were itchy and tired. I use a computer all day and by the end of the day my eyes are tired. This doctor told me that I had Blepharitis and he gave me a prescription for an antibiotic ointment to use at night and he said to scrub the eyelids twice a day. I used the ointment and the eyescrub for a month and it helped. After that I just stopped treating it. I also notice that I barely have any eyelashes on the lower lids and the ones on the upper are very fine. The doctor said that was caused by the Blepharitis but that I still had enough of them. My condition has started to flare up again and I just started to use the eye scrub again and the warm compresses. My eye doctor told me to continue with this and if I don't get any better he will prescribe the antibiotic ointment again. Is there anything available that can be purchased without a prescription that can also help? Also will my eyelashes grow back again once I get this under control ? I never had real long thick ones but I barely have any and they are very light. I have a very fair complextion with light brown hair....

George, sorry to hear that you're having flare-ups again. I have only REALLY heard that eyelid scrubs work (pretty well). I did read on the internet that Vital Botanicals makes a solution called Oregon Grape Tincture to help blepharitis. there may be some chinese herbs that help as well. I haven't heard from anyone if these works or not..although I'm thinking of purchasing the Oregon Grape Tincture. I went to see an eye doctor this morning, and he wasn't very helpful and kind of underestimated the severity of my blepharitis because it wasn't very inflammed this morning. So he prescribed nothing for me and said to continue to do eyelid scrubs with warm water, and not to use johnson's baby shampoo. It seems that doctor's don't take this very seriously and aren't that concerned about it. it's a bit discouraging. I guess all we can do is continue to research and experiment.

Thanks, I have been using OCUSOFT EYE LID scrubs twice a day and my eyes feel better. I guess all I can do for now is the warm compresses and the eyelid scrubs. At least my eyes are not as red and the itchiness is gone. I bought some baby shampoo because I read you can dilute it and use it instead of the commercial scrubs and will be cheaper to use in the long run..
