Hi

Was just wondering if anyone has had an success with any natural or pharmaceutical treatments for the sexual side effects of SSRI's? I'm currently on Cymbalta and feel completely asexual. Actually I've heard that some have the opposite effect with this drug, but not me. I've heard that some use Wellbutrin in combo with SSRI's for this and I've heard of some natural things like Ginko Biloba to treat it too. Sex is just the last thing on my mind and it is really frustrating for hubby.

I like the energizing effects and no weight gain and the positive effect on my mood of the Cymbalta. I've tried so many others with intolerable side effects or not good results. I feel like this is the best one yet aside from the sexual part.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi!

I read an article in Newsweek about this very subject..it was in last weeks Newsweek, and for the life of me, can not find it anywhere. It talked about Sexual dysfunction from SSRI's - and it did talk about Wellbutrin actually increasing libido. I am currently on Remeron (Mirtzapine) and have not had any problems in that area. Can you talk to your therapist or Doctor about trying a different class (than the SSRI's or SSNRI's) of antidepressants? Perhaps a Tryclyclic? Have you tried any natural (over the counter) supplements for depression such as SAM-e or St. Johns Wort, Holy Basil? I used to take SAM-e for moderate/severe depression and it worked very well for three years. Make sure to consult with your Doctor or therapist/pharmacist to make sure there are no drug interactions if you are on a prescription drug.

Thanks Rianna -

I have tried Sam e, St. Johns Wort and Holy Basil. Nothing works for me like meds. I was on Wellbutrin and it definetely increased my libido 100-fold. I found myself with anxiety and agitation from it though and didn't like that. Who knows I may try that again someday. Or try another class. What class of AD's is Remeron in? What side effects do you have? Is it working for you?

Thanks,

Chris
