A study out today as reported by ''science daily.com '' that the '' American Journal of Clinical Nutrition '' reported that studing 6,000 people for 2 yrs that they dramatically lowered their hypertension 50%. The higher the consumption the lower they were. Im confused sometimes on milk , some say growth hormones , mucus problems etc.that its bad and other studies like this seem to validate milk. Curious what others think !!

6foot3,
As with all foods, some people have problems and some don't. If it's a problem for you (mucus, lack of digestive enzimes), don't drink it. If it's not a problem for you, then milk is full of protein and calcium and other vitamins and minerals. If you are concerned with growth hormones and antibiotics in milk, then there are sources of organic milk. I don't buy into the "conspiracy theory" of certain foods being bad for EVERYBODY.

Harry,
Conventional milk is over processed and has hormones and antibiotics in it plus given the fact they milk the cows insessantly to sell more milk can cause infection in the cows utters causing more toxins to enter us. My choice of milk if not soy would be organic..You can get your BP lowered even better with organic...Lisa

Skim milk has all the pros of milk (calcium and protein) and none of the cons (BUTTERFAT.) Calcium is a proven muscle "relaxant" so that's probably the mechanism whereby the higher consumers lowered their BP's.
On the other hand the DAIRY LOBBY has DEEEEEEP pockets, so this study may have been bought and paid for by them, results and all. ;)
Unfortunately, I despise the taste of skim milk...like cold water with a swirl of white liquid shoe polish... so it's not an option for me.

Don't forget: skim milk lacks the fat-soluble vitamins, so it's not all good.
Anyway, I hate milk in any form, only chocolate milk gets down my throat :)

I couldn't local more specifics on the study (or even the article at science daily) but you never know what to make of these things. How high was the hypertension? Slightly high? Moderately high? Dangerously high? And are they saying that the only change was to skim milk? (Whole milk to skim milk or just adding skim milk to their diet?) And over 2 years that's the ONLY change they made?
I suspect there is more to it than that.
