My 6 week old has not pooped since last night. Hes breastfed so he usually goes every 2 hours at least. It seems like hes constipated because his whole body is straining and he keeps kicking his legs. He is tooting all the time too. I called my Drs and she said not to worry about it until tomorrow, but I was wondering if there was anything I could do to help him go. I have tried a warm bath and it seemed to help him feel better but only for a little while. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Breast fed babies can go up to ten days without pooping, believe it or not! However, if it is abnormal for your baby who normally goes every couple of hours, may be worth getting checked out. My little guy was kind of constipated once, and his doctor suggested giving some plain water to help loosen the bowel movements, but you really shouldn't do that unless the doctor suggests it.

Savanna has a constipation problem also. The doc suggest to give her a bit of Caro Syrup with water or if that doesnt help he told me to give a glycerin suppository. I was unable to find infant size ones so he told me to buy the child size ones and cut them in half..just use the tip of it.. Makes her go right away. Also depending on age you can give an ounce of prune juice diluted in water..works great also. good luck

When DS had trouble going we were told to give him the infant apple/prune juice. We gave him a 1/2 a bottle the first day, waited, then gave him the other half the next day. I wouldn't worry about it if it's only a day unless he seems to be having problems with it. Upset tummy, pain ect. DS hadn't gone for days and you could see he was starting to get fussy about it.

I gave my babies 2oz water to 2oz of Juicy Juice, when they were constipated, which wasn't very often. You can also try giving very tiny amounts of infant cereal, or even a small piece of banana. Heres to happy pooping!!!

Bananas, Applesauce, Rice can all be constipating as well, they are a double edged sword. Remember, that is what you are supposed to give your kids when they are vomiting and have diarrhea, so it's good to avoid them when trying to solve constipation.

A dose of Citrucel in the bottle, some prune juice work pretty well for us. My daughter has extreme constipation issues. Babylax glycerin suppositories will work also if they are super clogged up.My biggest advice is to find a diet solution that works for you and STICK with it. I have the exact dose of Citrucel/prune juice that works for my daughter and I do not deviate at all. I did when we traveled over Thanksgiving and it was a nightmare and right back to constipation.

At that age I would not worry for a few days or try the thermometer trick it always worked with my kids too. All that stuff can be harsh on a little baby and it's rare for an exclusivly breastfed baby to be truly constipated.I feel for you though when my DS went like a week between BM's my DH said I never wished for poo so much in my life lol.
