I haven't been to the doctor yet but after having stomach aches and lots of gas and farts and so on for a very long time now, I have searched the internet and it all says it is caused by Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

What I can read out of this is that it is a life-long disease that has developed. It is non-cureable.

There are lots of websites on the internet which have various cures. That there are so many "cures" for it and no specific well-known treatment approved by doctors, tells me that it is all nothing but a method to hide the fact that this disease is a lifelong burden that I will have to live with until I some day passes away.

I have a lifelong disease and is not cure-able. The only thing I can do is to try various things and then hope that some day my disease will go away, but it wont. Just like it didnt for the many other millions of people, it will not go away for me.

What can I do? My future life seems completely ruinated...
A lifelong disease giving me pain, with no specific cure approved by doctors and I will have to rely on spiritual fools and psychologists.

I would research the diagnostic criteria because if you JUST have "farting and stomach aches", it is NOT Irritable Bowel Syndrome. IBS involves the bowels, and changes in stool frequency... I suggest you look up Rome Criteria, which I believe you can find at the top of this page.

There are other functional bowel disorders that might be the culprit...

I think you need to see a doctor before jumping to the conclusion that you have a non-curable disease. To start with IBS is not a disease, it is a syndrome that is controlled with diet, stress management and some meds. It can be very debilitating but it will not kill you. IBD such as Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are diseases, I know I have Crohn's.

As bulletinboard says there are many things that can cause the symptoms you describe.

Good Luck

Ppepper,
You sound like you are at our wits end, I want to give you some hope. I have been dealing with IBS for 14 Years now, and I am only 32. Yes it is very inconvenient, but controllable. You need to pay attention to the food you eat and slowly eliminate or cut down on the ones that trigger it. STRESS will make it soooooo bad, the more you stress about it, the worse it's going to get. When I found out I had it, I finally GOT MAD!!!!! I said to myself "I am not going to let this ruin me" I have to work around this. So I decided to just grasp it by the Ba_ _s and just know that there is 100's of 1000's of people with this, and we do go on.....
Please don't get to discouraged, and know that you will be ok, it's not a life threatening thing "THANK GOD"!!!!!
Hope you start to feel better soon,

I just posted a message about being cured. I recently self-administered a saliva test from my nutritionist; the lab results revealed a genetic intolerance to eggs and soy.

I was getting soooooo depressed. Everytime I went to the gym and very frequently when around people I would have episodes of smelly gas. I also had frequent diarreah and sometimes bad cramps. I felt like isolating myself to avoid the constant embarrassment.

Now that I have given up eggs and soy, I am symptom free. I know this will not be the answer for everyone, but for me, life is so much better than it was for many many years.

I began suffering symptoms in my early 20s and am now 50. Several gastroenterologists said I had IBS and lactose intolerance. I did not.
