roxyfoxy 12-02-2005, 01:11 PM My baby boy has a diaper rash that I have been treating for 3 days. It looks much better and he's not crying as much anymore, but how long before its fully cured? Just want to know what to look for incase I need to contact the doctor.
brwneyez9 12-02-2005, 08:06 PM I thinked that it really depends on the child and the type on onitment you are using. I took me some time to find the right stuff. Using Burts Bee's diaper rash onitment or Aquaphor is the two things i have found the best. I can usually have her rash cleared up with one of those by the next diaper or two.At the most usually by the next day.
Karen62705 12-02-2005, 08:24 PM I also found that Aquaphor was the best! Now if DS starts to get a little red I use it, and he's a cleared up by the next diaper change!
shelliam 12-02-2005, 10:56 PM I really like Boudreaux Butt Paste. DS was having problems this morning and the A&D which normally does the job wasn't cutting it one good application and it's pretty clear . I put it on again at night for a few days because thier skin is still tender if it was bad.
MommaBee 12-02-2005, 11:11 PM Any of those will work, but if it hasn't gone away in a couple more days, he could have a yeast infection. I gave my son one from breast feeding him with an infected breast. I didn't know it at the time, as I was a new mother and new to breast feeding. Keep an eye on it and if it gets worst or doesn't go away, get him to the doctor.
roxyfoxy 12-03-2005, 01:14 PM By the next diaper change or two? Wow, that's pretty quick. Its been a couple of days and he does look much better. I stopped using it yesterday and he was a bit red so I applied it again. Could I be doing something to cause it? Wiping his butt too much or waiting too long to change? I change as soon as he has a bowel movement and when I notice its red. He got the rash when my MIL put baby powder on his butt, I was so pissed.
Emmabean 12-03-2005, 08:07 PM Hi Roxy! Good to see you here on the infant board! I have been airing out my DD's bottom in the evening. I know you have to be careful about boys urinating when they aren't covered, but if possible, you could lightly cover him with a towel and let him get time without the diaper. When changing her, I also dry her (pat her dry with a cloth) after using the wet wipes and before putting the fresh diaper on.
My mother also wants to put a lot of products on my baby's butt. I have put all my products away and only have available what I want to be used now, which is Desitin.
Good luck!
brwneyez9 12-03-2005, 08:58 PM Well i could be a yeast infection too. My DD has had a few of those. The ped tell us to use Lortim AF and hydrocortizon (sorry misspelled) and that always takes her right away. So you could try the if you think he has a yeast infection. Good luck with this.
roxyfoxy 12-04-2005, 04:37 PM Emmabean-Nice to see you two! This is wonderful, we went through our pregnancies together and now the trials and tribulations (and joys of course!) of our newborns.
nyxin 12-04-2005, 05:32 PM i am surprised to hear that your baby got a rash after powder. I have used powder and only powder with both of my boys and have had only one incident of diaper rash and that was when DS had the runs. I have had very good luck with it, i hope your little one clears up right away!
Kirii 12-04-2005, 10:22 PM ok stupid question of the day. My mother is highly paranoid woman. She said the only way a girl well infant or toddler can get a yeast infection is if she's been sexually abused. She told me not to tell her pediatrician about the diaper rash that looked like a yeasty one because of that. I of course told/showed her doctor because my DD isn't exposed to any males when i'm not around. Heck the only time she's not with me is at daycare and it's at a church with cameras. I personally believe it's silly, but wanted to make sure I can rub that stupid comment out. Btw her pediatrician didn't seem to think it was a big deal just put the butt paste on it. It did go away, came back and went away again.
nyxin 12-04-2005, 10:32 PM diaper rash IS candida (sp?) the same thing that causes a diaper rash. This is the same for a boy or a girl. yeast infections/diaper rash is an imbalance of yeast and flora. simple as that. if a woman has a yeast infection, they can pass it on to their partner, but it is not an STD. my son has had diaper rash once and I assure you it was a simple imbalance. (he had the runs) and furthermore, why would she not want you to tell anyone even if it were remotely possible for it to be sexually transmitted? it is my vew that if there was any symptom or sign of abuse that it should be reported right away and I am quite sure that if I didn't, my mom would. did i not read that part right?
yeast in not sexually transmitted... women can get it from wearing tight clothes and the moisture build up causes bacteria to grow. same for babies male or female, if the diapers are wet for too long yeast can build up. it NOT a sexual thing.
my niece had a problem with powder too. i don't use it on my son at all just cause of the warnings on the bottle. but my friend was successfull with the bad diaper rashes if after she changed her she took a dry paper towel and dried her bum completely and then put the diaper on. hope that helps
Kirii 12-05-2005, 08:34 AM I personally have no suspicions that it's sexual abuse. My mom was raised up very badly and she doesn't understand things like other people do. Nothing wrong with her, but just bad upbringing. If I ever suspected anything happening to my child i'd be the first to call someone or anyone that I had to. She's just very paranoid. And I like to make sure on things cause you never know!
roxyfoxy 12-05-2005, 11:21 AM I was told not to put powder on his butt because it can cake up in the creases and cause irritation. It was just interesting that the one time someone put powder on his butt he got a rash. I now clean the area well and dry it with a dry cloth. I would love to give him time without a diaper, but I know he will just pee everywhere! I tried covering his "friend" but he just ends up kicking the cloth off.
