Recently I noticed after taking off my toenail polish that each toenail is discolored white, almost looks dried out? The white consumes about half the nail starting from the tip downward. Any advice? Could this be a fungus? My nails are not thick, they are very thin.

Does the portion where the white discoloration is look like the smile line has changed into a frown line? In other words, is it U shaped, and if so, is the nail plate detached from the nail bed? If so, you may have a yeast infection, which is much easier to treat than a fungus infection that is characterized by a yellow discoloration with apparent debris in the area of separation.

If it is yeast (candida) then you will need a prescription for Naftin from your doctor.
