I will step up to the plate and tell you that what you are doing is unhealthy and you need to stop asap. You are killing yourself with this self-destructive behavior and eating. Stress is hard on the body anyway, eating junk food is the worst. You are a bit overweight, but with diet and exercise it will even out. You need to think positive and want to live longer. You keep on going with what you are doing, your kidneys might fail, you may develop blidness or heart problems. That is reality of the diabetes. Also, you may have to go onb insulin injections several times a day if you do not change the eating habits. Good luck and try to change, everyone cares.

I guess I'm a little confused as to what type of diabetic you are. If you're a teen who is 5'11" and 142 pounds then you are not overweight. You said you are on pills and didn't mention anything about injections so are you a type 2?

Do you go to a doctor every so often? How often do you check your own blood sugar?

You didn't mention anything about drinking alcohol which is good. Drinking is not a good thing when you're diabetic.

You may be better off taking injections. If you took injections you could eat whatever you wanted (pretty much) and just take the insulin to cover it. Still, I am confused as to what type of diabetic you are so you'd need to talk to your doctor about that.

At your age and weight, I really don't think you should have to give up all the food you like but you do have to be more responsible. Whether that's with injections or moderation, I don't know, but there are things you can do to live the way you want to. When you go to your doctor, be as honest as you can and tell them how your lifestyle is and that you want to be able to eat like a teenager does. There's nothing wrong with that and at your age you should be able to have some freedom. You shouldn't have to try and drink a ton of water before your appointment in order to just avoid the lecture. You're a teen and I don't think there's anything wrong with some junk food or a little partying once in awhile (probably not the most responsible advice but hey, we all know that teens are gonna do what teens are gonna do). If that IS what you're going to do then you do need to talk to your doctor about it. I'm sure your doc would rather hear the truth so they can tell you what to be careful of rather than to have you lie about what you're doing.

As far as the gangs and fighting. Well, you know what you have to do there. Just stop. Right now.

Maybe this will do it...uncontrolled diabetes can lead to amputations (which is bad enough), but also to erectile dysfunction, meaning you can't get it up! NO MORE SEX!

That ought to be reason enough for a young guy like you to get more serious about your diabetes management!

Ok, wait, let me get my composure- phew! OK....

ARE YOU GUYS INSANE? Are either of you diabetic?

First of all you don't give someone with diabetes an image problem by informing them they are over weight when they are the perfect weight for their height. Where do you get that a 5'11" guy that weighs 142 is over weight? Minimum weight for a male of that height is 146.

Additionally, telling a young person with diabetes that they should be on insulin b/c it's easier is bull pucky. Having to give your self a shot 2, 3, 4 times a day is not easy. Telling him that you can eat what ever you want as long as you take enough insulin to cover it is BAD advice. Can you do it? Sure. Is it healthy- absolutely not.

Gugu- what you are doing is called rebellion and denial. I don't know how long you've been diagnosed- you didn't say. But regardless of that fact, your age also has a lot to do with it. You want control over your life when you feel like you have none. I went through the same thing. I was diagnosed over 9 yrs ago. After going to bed and waking up in the hospital only to find out I had been there for 2-3 days I started paying a little more attention to what was going on. I had spent my whole life eating what I wanted. Then suddenly I had to take shots and wasn't supposed to eat any sugar and had to count carbs. Candy was off limits except for "medicinal" purposes (having to eat it b/c my sugar was low). One day I just couldn't stand it any more and I snapped. I ate 5 candy bars on my way home from work. The next day I was so sick and in SO much pain. When my husband got me to the ER my sugar was above 1000. The last thing I remember was the dr yelling that they were going to need a kidney. Now, I know that you're younger than I was and b/c of that I also know that it's worse for you. But you don't want to have to take insulin shots. If you take too much you bottom out. Too little, you're sick (I call it sugar hangover). Do you really want to be out hanging with your friends and spaz? What would they do if you fell to the ground and started seizing? Would they even know what to do? The better you care for yourself the more you lessen your chances for this happening. If your sugars run high regularly you probably don't feel that bad- your body has become accustomed to it. But the longer your "high" like that the more damage you are doing. You are allowing yourself to be in a constant state of DKA. Which (you should know) makes your blood almost like acid. My doctor explained it as almost like a cannibalism- except you are the cannibal AND the victim.

Please, Please- get you sugars under control. ODing on your meds is just as dangerous as not taking them. I'm sure you local hospital has a peer group for diabetics. You really need to talk to people in you exact situation. Age and health wise any way. I haven't looked to see if there is a PM on here but I will. If so I will send you my email- if you need someone to talk to that actually knows what you're going through.

I'm the lucky one,

My daughter takes 4 shots a day. I wouldn't suggest someone do that unless I had some idea of what it was like. She is a teen and lives the lifestyle of a teen, not someone who is sick. The shots don't bother her at all but maybe they would bother someone like yourself. My advice was for a teen, not for an adult or an older person who has other health problems. Telling a teen to live like a 60 or a 70 year old is ridiculous and they aren't going to do it. Do you have a teen? Have you ever been one? My advice was just that...my advice. I'm not a health expert and am only speaking from the experiences that I know of. The original poster is free to use it or ignore it. Thanks for your input though.

I was diagnosed at 18- I'm 27 now. I don't live the lifestlye of someone who is sick. But the trick there is "live". B/c of the way I go about my life I am able to continue living...

Regardless of age, u should follow ur dr's advice. Diabetes can kill u- either way.
I don't have any teenage children but if I did I would have them follow the 'rules'. B/c I know from experiance what can happen.
