hi there,

this is a question on behalf of a friend. An insulin dependant diabetic. Recently had toe amputated due to diabetes. now suffering erectile problems. could this due to be the infection in the foot and generally being unwell. they are mid thirties. Lost erections in mornings? since op. will things return to normal or should they get help?

thanks

Absolutely 100% erectile dsyfunction can be caused by having HIGH blood sugars, not the infection. The infection not going away is also caused by HIGH blood sugars. NOTHING in the body can work correctly, heal correctly, or even function to its potential as long as blood sugars are up.

Your friend needs to get control of his numbers asap. High blood sugars can cause many more problems in the future.

Ditto what Al said. Your friend is apparently starting to experience the type of circulatory problems that can be brought on by poor blood glucose control. The erectile dysfunction is caused by poor blood circulation to the penis. There may also be a bit of nerve damage as well.

The good news is that this might possibly be at least partially reversible if he gets tight control over his blood sugars. Also, some people have had good results for neuropathy with ALA and GLA, but I don't know if it helps much as far as the circulation goes.
