HELP! I am begining to wonder if I am having some gall bladder trouble. I do have ibs. Mostly D but occasionaly C. Lately I have been having pain in upper abdomen with mucus in stools and pain in rt shoulder blade. Belching etc.... This past week though.. what a doosey! Horrible cramping, sweating, nausea, eventually explosive D. Then it happened again two days later only this time the D was frequent and explosive, but no pain (much to my relief). Now I have the shoulder pain and a bit of a indigestion feeling in my stomache. Has anyone had gall bladder trouble and found D to be part of the symptoms?

Hi river, i have every sympathy for you, i recently started with IBS(d) but i have had gall stones noe for almost 4 years, i have episodes of (d) due to the gall stones, i also get the intense pain in the right shoulder, shoulder blade, arm and right upper abdo, i get the pain going into the chest also. i have the indegestion, i think i have shares in antacids hehehe, i had a scan and it showed the stones then my gp decided it was helicobacter pylori, been treated for that but occassionaly i still suffer with the stones. So in answer to your question yes gall stones can cause (d). Hope that helps :)

Yes, it helps. Isn't it strange that the saying is sooo true. Misery DOES love company. I Haven't been diagnosed with the gall stones, but I have been doing some internet searching on them since my Mom had mentioned perhaps my gall bladder was having a flare up. (The right shoulder blade pain tipped her off). I was sooooo sick a couple of days ago (now it's just the normal amount of crap.... so to speak) but the pain was sudden and intense and I was sweating and thought I would vomit or pass out. Normally with the usual D... I have a movement and it relieves it all together or at least until the next set of cramps... these cramps were constant... then when I got the how should I put this... really watery D and for about an hour or so, I was in the restroom about every 15mins.... but no pain that time, just felt really gassy. (how pleasant is all of this!) I don't know what triggered this bad an episode... about a month or more ago my husband and I had Philly cheesteak sandwiches and I knew about an hour after eating it, it wasn't agreeing with me... that lasted about two weeks.... this time I don't know.... maybe too much turkey? Any diet tips.... I just had a bowl of campbells chicken and stars soulp with a few soda crackers... it seemed tame enough... well see how I hold up...

River,
Just wondering... are you going to go to the doctor about the gall bladder, or have you already? The pain in your upper abdomen, where is it exactly? Usually the gall bladder you will feel more in your right rib cage and yes also in your shoulder blade too.
Not to be gross but has your stool color been changing as well? I know with IBS that is one of the most comon symptoms (not normal bowel movements), but with the GB problems it usually get's like a yellow gold color.... Some people with IBS it's like that color too, but I thouht if yours wasn't before and it is now, that might let you know more if it is or isn't the GB.....Any way.... keep posted......Hope your feeling better...

The pain when it was really persistant about a month or so ago was mostly dead center but from my ovaries up it all felt, just not right... this time, it's mostly dead center again just not as bad, the shoulder pain is more pronounced this time and I'm distended but not as much as last time.. alot a belching goin' on too. With the IBS my stool consistency and color etc... is a veritable cornucopia of surprises. When I just had this bad spell of the D it was verry watery and started brownish green and by the time that I had ridded myself of that last years worth of meals that I must have been storing somewhere it was yellowish. I'm feeling a little better today, but I have been having days like that for the past week.
I was just at the doctor about two weeks ago for the first episode (I was afraid it was a) an ulcer or b) gall trouble. But he seemed to think it was just GERD and prescribed pepcid. But the cramps I had this last couple of bouts of D were like nothing I've had yet, and I've had it bad. I just wondered if anyone had had anything like it before in connection with gall trouble.

Hi River, i second what 'want2feelgood' said about the pain, it is located more in the right side of the rib cage and can radiate out to the shoulder, blade chest etc, i know when im in for a flare up of the G.bladder because my entire stomach swells from under the bust and i get a crippling tight feeling, as for diet i am on a strictly fat free diet for the G.stones, no spicey or fatty foods, no citrus fruit (the acid flares it up more) no alcohol, caffine. I would advise u get it checked out with your doctor tho. When i get a flare up of IBS(d) my motion is yellow but when its G.bladder my colour doesnt really tend to alter much.

I was wondering how long you have had the Gall B problems? Have you been for all the tests? Ultrasounds, Hida Scan, Blood work etc.... Do you have to have it out?
I don't know if I have GB problems or not, I mean I went for the Ultrasound and all that, but they said I don't have stones.... so who knows... But I do have the IBS and have for 14 years, man oh man what a time. When I first got it I was about 18 years old, I’m now 32. It was the most disabling time of my life rite up until I was about 24. I went from about 145lbs. to 105lbs, was always weak and couldn't eat for nothing. Any way I guess it just feels good to know that even though I get bouts of it at times, I am NO WHERE NEAR AS BAD AS I ONCE WAS!!!! THANK GOD!!! Let me know about the Gall Bladder, OK.

hi Want2feelgood, ive suffered with my gall bladder now for 4 years, ive had the scans and the tests and i do have stones and boy have i suffered with them, i get the pain so bad it literally paralyses my right hand side of my body from the neck down, but i watch what i eat now so ive more or less got it under control, i have been told that if it becomes a problem again then i will be looking at having it out, ive managed to put that off tho for the time being. Im new tho to the IBS it only started end of october and lasted for 4 weeks constant, ive had bowels problems in the past when ive been stressed but never this bad, mind u i was waiting for a cervical biopsy report and that kind of stressed me a little coz they left me waiting 3 weeks!!. I know all the signs now when im heading for an attack of the gall bladder and i can usually stop it flaring or minimise the discomfort, when it first started tho 4yrs ago i couldnt ease it and was in pain so bad i couldnt sit down, lie down or anything... its easier now in comparison.
