Okay, I give up! I am ready to try anything to get this monkey off my back! I can't take the crashing fatigue anymore. I have things to do, places, to go, etc. I am ready to CONSIDER HRT but am confused as to what kind they might put me on. I have had no hyster, everything intact, I have NO LIBIDO, and all the other stuff. I am confused as to the progesterone, estrogen, testosterone information. I just don't want to be given the wrong thing. I think , sometimes, they just throw you on estrogen and that might not be the right thing. Please, give me your views. Thanks a lot and hope you have the energy to gear up for the holidays.

Hi Annieroo,
Welcome. You are not alone. You have found a great place to get information. ;)
I have been exactly where you are. I tried everything natural, but still was not doing well. I am now on Premarin and it is working well for me. I don't feel like I need to be admitted to a padded room anymore. They started me on the lowest dose and I had to move up one. It isn't what I want to do forever but for now I just needed to feel better for awhile. Just talk with your Dr. and mention your hesitations. Hope you are feeling better very soon.

Are you talking about synthetic hormones or natural hormone replacement? With natural hormone replacement your doctor has to do a full panel hormone testing to see which hormones are over-producing/under-producing. It does sound confusing but I think one gets the hang of it when you start listening to your body. There are a lot of good books out about natural hormone replacement.
I wouldn't recommend synthetic hormones to anyone. The risks are far too great.

Yes, I feel like, if I could just get a break from the fatigue and accomplish some things...especially w/ the holidays coming up. I am just tired of eeeking by. Do a little, rest a lot....do a little....etc. Did the premarin help your energy level or just your mood? Also, the second post mentioned that she did not recommend synthetic hormones to anyone....re: risks. I know about some of the risks, such as clots..but what else? As if clots aren't enough :)
Okay....getting some good information and that is what I was counting on. Always know I can get answers for my questions. Just want to make some informed choices. I can always read a lot of material but the best source is to go directly to those who KNOW. That info is what I truly trust and appreciate.

Hi AnnieRoo,
I take Prempro 0.45. I was taking Prempro 0.3, but that was not doing enuf for me. The 0.3 is the lowest amount for this particular drug. It helps me not be nervous or agitated. It helps me not to have hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Now, I do not know about energy. I do not have much of that, because of various other illnesses, so hopefully someone will answer about that in the am.
Take care and try the hormones. You do not have to stay on them forever. Then after Christmas, you can spend more time researching and try something else?!

I personally do not believe in synthetic hormone replacement. You are looking for long term, low side effect impact relief. Synthetic hormones can cause lots of problems, including an increased risk of breast cancer (my mother got cancer after years of HRT, but is a survivor).
About 2 years ago, I started realizing that some of the "things" I was dealing with was related to menopause (at 45). After reading "What your Dr. never told you about perimenopause", I realized that had been me for at least 5-6 years. Up until about 7 months ago, I was dealing with severe cramping, horrible PMS (which I'd never had because I'd spent most of my adult life on bcp), increasing fatigue, insomnia and the occasional hot flash. About 7 months ago after a death in my family, all hell broke loose in my body. I started having panic/anxiety (never had before), racing heart and adrenaline rushes, chills, severe insomnia and fatigue and constant headaches and tingling pressure in my head.
After getting checked out by my GP and a cardologist, I found a gyno. that specializes in natural hormone replacement. I also read Suzanne Sommers book "The Sexy Years" in which she talks about bioidentical hormones. I've been using them, plus other supplements, and feel a lot better. Overall, I still have most symptoms, but to a lesser degree. It definitely helped with feeling so tired. I am still in the process of finding the right dosage. It takes several months - and my periods are still irregular. But the main thing is I don't feel like I'm dying!
I think what you will find in any reading or research on hormones is that they must be balanced for you to feel better. If your Dr. gives you estrogen or both estrogen and progesterone without testing you, how does he know how much to give or if your are even deficient in estrogen? Many women have too much estrogen! If you take more, it couldn't possible help you. You can have your hormones tested through saliva testing. It will give you an idea of what levels all your hormones are at.
Sorry this is soooo long, but I hope it helps you in your decision on which road to follow.
