I've always been an aneamic. But, recently, I noticed some brown patches on my tongue. They were never there before. They are slightly red on the sides, and are itchy. My doctor sent me for test, to check my haemoglobin level, as expected, it was low. So I was sent to the hospital for a week and my haemoglobin level became normal. And the condition of my tongue had slightly improved.
But today, its very very red and itches. Also, I suffer from digestive problems and only have milk and a slice of bread for dinner.
Anyone got any idea of what is causing these brown patches?

You might ask your doctor to check you for fungus infections since you say you have digestive problems. Thrush is something that is easy to get if you do not eat or can not eat nutritiously.

I have a quaestion along those same lines. Recent blood tests indicate my RBC, WBC and HGB are dropping slightly, just below the normal range. I now have a red, cresent-shaped lesion (painless) on my tongue. Can anemia cause lesions and other abnormalities on the tongue? Thanks.
