Woke up on Wednesday with a sore throat, I felt really shitttty through the day. I ended up leaving college early. Wednesday night I never had any sleep, I was really bad, one minute I was hot the next minute I was cold. So I ended up phoning in sick on Thursday. Felt much better thursday evening so I went into work on Friday. Today I'm fine, just have a itchy couch. Also worried at the amount of phlegm (flem) that I'm bringing up. I asume this is normal? I hardly ever bring any up.

It is better to be coughing up phlegm than for it to be stuck in your throat/lungs/etc. If it's really thick, you might want to take something like Mucinex which will help thin out the mucus so you can cough more of it out.

Yeah I do cough it up. Have had this for a few days since the cold worn off. When I said I hardly ever bring any up, I was meaning I hardly get phlegm full stop. I asume its perfectly normal to get phlegm after a cold? Surely the phlegm is the body's way of getting rid of the bug?

I would guess so - just as it's good to blow your nose to get all the stuff out too!

Now, if I could just get rid of my cold too ... man, I'd be happy to be coughing stuff up!

Still though, I hope you continue to feel better, and if you feel like coughing stuff up, it's always better to get that stuff out than to try to hold it in.

Cheers man, yeah hopefully it all goes soon. The cold only lasted 2 days, the cough and this phlegm is just hanging around.

You are so lucky that your cold only lasted 2 days! I've been reading around on this forum and it seems some people have had colds this year that have lasted for weeks!! Scary!

As long as your cough is productive (by that I mean, as long as you are coughing the stuff up and don't feel like it is getting congested in your chest) then I'd say you're good - probably just lingering effects of the cold/virus.

So you guys think this cough is is just the lingering effects of my cold? I'm still bringing up plenty of phlegm. Also feel slightly weezy. How long should I expect this to go on for?
