I am wondering what the problem could be. ONLY AFTER DINNER I feel a weird feeling in my upper abdomen. I feel very full though I don't eat a huge dinner. I'm Female - 57 y/o, maybe ten lbs overweight. Is there any disorder that causes the feeling of fullness after eating. I've check out some sites but came up with no information. If someone has this problem, I'd like to pick your brain. I do have a lot of acid, probably Acid Reflux, but that's about it. Can this be the cause? Of course it would be easy to make an appointment with a dr, but being dr phobic I'm taking this route right now. Any input would be very appreciated. Thanks. :)

Gastritis and Gastroparesis can both cause a "full" feeling after only a few bites. I have gastritis and I get that "full" sensation. I describe the feeling like being punched in the stomach. The only real way to find out would be to see a gastroenterologist(sp?). They deal with digestive issues. They will probably want to have an endoscopy done to look at your stomach.

I am having a severe gastristis problem for the last couple weeks we think brought on by drinking a bit much one night. Dr. said it could take 2 months to heal but we are waiting another week before endo. I am not getting worse. He said absolutely no dairy, fresh fruits and veggies till better. Most of us seem to have a problem with motility and food stays in the stomach too long. Also, drinking anything and eating tends to cause more gas. I would guess you problem is gas and perhaps you might take a gas pill right after you eat.

Could it be one food item? Like potatoes. Or with all food? Are you drinking fluid along with your meals? My stomach is VERY sensitive and I have to cater to it. My holistic Dr. told me a long time ago to NOT drink fluids with meals. Wait at least 35 min. to an hour before drinking anything after eating. That really helped me.
I have to eat REAL slow too. If I don't, I get gassy, bloated and sometimes nauseaus.

Thanks for all of your replies. I may have worded my original posting incorrectly. My problem is, that in the middle of the night, long after dinner was ingested, I wake up from sleep with a heaviness in the middle of my stomach with a slight tinge of nausea. Having had dinner hours before I'm wondering what the cause could be. This doesn't happen every night though. But when it does, it becomes worrisome. I do suffer from Acid Reflux and wonder if this could be a symptom? Could this be related to that?

Sounds like the problems my gall bladder where causing me. Does some tightness in the chest and some pain between the should accompany the rest of the symptoms?
I would wake up so bloated it was painful and stuff was creeping back up my throat so bad the only relief was to make myself throw up. Antacids and pepto did nothing.
I also suffer from Acid Reflux and I am taking Nexium for and that helps. Are you taking meds for the Acid Reflux? If not you should, it can do nasty things to your esophagus.
