My Mom's house apparently has mold in it and I wanted to know if it would cause any problems for the baby? If I go to visit her she'd want us to stay there, so telling her no because her house has mold would be offending to her. Actually telling her no would be offending, period. If mold is dangerous I'd like to know before going to visit. Maybe there is something they can do to get rid of it?

I have mold and mildew on my walls in my bathroom and we are getting it taken care of, but our DR said that it could make all of us sick not just my 17 month old. I would recommend getting it bleached off which is temporary and what I do, and get it scrubed off and repaint or something like that I"m not sure where your mold is at. It can make us sick though, unfortunatly

I lived in an apertment building that had balck mold in the sheetrock. I was so sick for the longest time, but could never figure it out. I went from neurologist to ear nose and throat doctors, and they had no clue. Finally, we discovered it and moved, and I've been fine ever since. That's how I got the name dizzygirl, I was dizzy all the time, and I used to post on the inner ear board!
Anyway,it can be so dangerous if it's a certain type. Be careful, but have a great visit together!

I agree with everyone above. Certain types can be dangerous to everyone, not just babies. Even the ones that aren't neccessarily dangerous could cause problems for those with asthma or allergies. What type of mold is it?

That explains why my parents cough and gag so much.

Can you have your mom visit you instead? Personally, I wouldn't risk it. It can't be good for any of you, including your mom.

She just visited me, but my whole family can't come so I want to go visit all of them.

Roxyfoxy,
Funny you mention this. This is why I had to move to another state during my pregnancy. We had mold in our basement family room caused by seepage. It was getting out of control. I moved in with my parents because I didn't want to get sick during the pregnancy. My DH had to tear down the walls and bleach the cement, put on a special sealant for the seepage problem, and then replace the drywall. In the process, he had to take a lot of steps so that he wouldn't get sick breathing it. There was some black mold which is toxic. We also found little fungi (alien looking) growths in our crawl space below the house. He had to completely take care of the seepage there too and clean with bleach.
In the process I learned that it is pretty dangerous. It probably depends on the severity, but if it's not really bad, maybe it will be ok for a short visit. If you can smell it and it affects your breathing, I wouldn't stay. I know that must be a tough call. It was awful for me having to move away from my DH. We still aren't back in the house because the remodeling isn't complete! My DH has to come visit us on his days off!

Wow, that is tough Emma. I guess your situation was harder than mine is, but I know my parents, they take it as a personal attack. I am good at making excuses though, I'll just make something up to stay at my brothers. Its a 30 min drive, but worth taking in that case.

I would get some Information on mold and give it to them. Then They Might Not be so offended. Personnaly I would not take my child there.
there are already Enough Dangerous toxins in our homes you dont need to add another.
I am not sure I would want to use bleach on it either. Bleach is Terrible. it is one of the most dangerous chemicals there are. you dont want your child anywhere near bleach. You have to be so careful These days.....things you assume would be fine Could be very dangerous for your child.
did you know that Johnson Baby Shampoo has Formaldyhyde in it? I dont know how dangerous it is...but I sure as hell wont take the chance by using it on my child.
Do a Search for "Toxins in the home" and you would be shocked about the potential dangers most of us expose our children to.
