I am home today with ds who has another cold! Here's the thing- every time we go to the doctor for a well visit, or something else, he gets sick a few days later. I seriously think that the office has more germs than a hospital. Am I going crazy, or can this really be true? I wipe my hands and his when we leave with those anti-bacterial wipes, and also the scale he goes on. He just had a cold last month, he's not in day care, should I be worried about all of these colds????

Don't be worried "Tis the Season", not just for Christmas, but Colds and Flu as well. It's a drag. Ask your Dr., if you're really really worried, but a child can basically have one cold after another from November through April. I had one season with my kids like that, I may as well have bought stock in Kleenex, Vicks and Dimetapp. If it isn't the Dr. office where your baby catches a cold virus, it will be in a million other places this time of year.

On a side note, I did hear on the radio morning show here in CA that the anti-bacterial wipes are becoming basically ineffective because we've all over-used them and now the germs are immune, virus germs (like for a cold) were never effected by them anyway, because a virus isn't bacterial. I still use the wipes all the time though, it makes me feel better even if they don't really work like that study proved.

Hang in there!

I just came back from the doctor, and he said it can be common for a child to have 6-8 colds a year!!!! Oh my, I hope that doesn't happen to Jack! I know what you mean about the wipes though, I use them when we are out, and I know that it's probably doing more harm than good, but he has his hands in his mouth all day!!

I am sure that the office has more germs than the hospital! Especially a ped office. THink about it, how many little kids do you know that wash their hands really good or cover their mouths when they cough? As for the anitbacterial stuff I agree with Allthelarsons, they are pretty much useless. We just use plain baby wipes, and wash hands often. I keep the door handles, light switches (i know that sounds crazy!), phones and remotes cleaned with either clorox wipes or alchol or something like that. Also if I can possibly help it I don't touch a door in public, or the sink handles, the sink is actually the dirtiest part of the bathroom, just a little useless trivia, lol. All that may seem excessive but it seems to help us get less colds.
