I had this thing growing under my thumb nail for a couple of years, looked likea big splinter and felt bruised to touch, on looking through the message boards I see that it could be a splinter hemmorhage, however last week I had surgery which involved removing the nail and cutting out a wedge of flesh containing the black thing, this has now been sent for biopsy and I am awaiting results. Has anyone else ever experienced this if so what is the likely outcome, also its now a week after surger and it is sooo painful still and every time I change the dressing it looks really bad and sticky, not sure if it is infected and what I should do. Any advice appreciated, thanks.

What you had was probably some sort of nail 'mole', which is why they had to surgically remove it. Wait for the biopsy to come back for the final diagnosis. In the meantime, keep the nail/finger clean and dry and out of harms way.
