I am trying to increase my fibre intake to see how it affects my bowel discomfort. I started taking fibre a couple of years ago for greneral health but I ended up stopping because it dehydrated me so badly. I am going to resume but wish to avoid waking in the night for a drink of water, as I used to take it right before bed. Especially if I am spending the evening at home, can I take it with or after supper?

You can take it morning, noon, or night, with or without food. Most people seem to take it for constipation, but in the last couple of days, it has really helped me with perpetual diarrhea, too. Other people take it to help lower their blood cholesterol. Just be sure you take it with plenty of liquid. Don't skimp on the liquid or it could make you constipated.
