well let start from the begining Dec '04 I had my large intestine removed do to it just pretty much quite and I had BAD constipation doing pretty good until about 2 months ago started getting very nasueas come and went... So went to the dr did numerous test including hyda scan and the nuclear scan to test stomach at 120 minutes 2/3 of that wonderful breakfst they made me eat was still in the stomach gallbaldder was only 11% functioning so they removed it but they werent sure if it would fix the problem with the stomach guess what they were right still have the same problems I am fine until I take my patch off then the sickness comes back Dr uped the Reglan to 15mg 4x day only been on it since friday. Not sure how much my body is getting cause I see the little pills floating in the toilet. I am going to give it a little while before I get brave and remove the patch to see if it is working I have to see him 6-8 weeks or sooner if I get sick again. He mentioned the pacemaker as a last result and I am thinking that he ment if this reglan didnt work.

Does anyone have this problem or had any other exp with this????

cowgirls, i had gastroparesis around 12 years ago but it did go away. thank goodness. i was on reglan and several other meds to see if they worked. i am not sure but i think it has returned again. i had a gastric emptying test in sept 04 but it showed normal. my dr. suspects that my nausea is possible due to gastroparesis. do you feel ill after you eat or other times as well? i think heavier foods such as meat maybe raw vegetables take longer to digest and stay in the digestive tract and cause problems. did he give you instructions on what foods to avoid? have you been taking ANY other medications before this problem started? how old are you?
is your patch a medication? I will definitely mention it to my dr if it seems to be working for you. I've read that there is an electrical device that is also used. let us know how the reglan works.

I am taking a patch called transderm scop i think it is for motion sickness it seems to be the only thing that is working to make me be able to function.
I take 30mg Prevacid and 15mg of the reglan 4x a day. I dont have a pattern of sickness I cant really say what triggers it becuse the reflux from it is I think the reason why I throw up. Everytime I take the patch off I get sick I know that.
The elctroic devise you are talking about is a pacemaker and he told me I am looking like a canidate for this.

cowgirls,
have you recently been on other medicines due to your intestine removal.
i was shocked to read that some antidepressants can cause the stomach to empty slower. there may be other meds also. (just for info) i think hormonal changes can also affect stomach as well as diabetes. is the patch something for short term use only? it sounds like an anti-histamine that some use on cruises or car sickness.
hope you are feeling better..

Prevacid is the only thing and immodium every once in awhile. He told me I could use the patch forever but it is just masking the problem.

i understand totally and and can relate to wanting to know the cause and not just treat the symptom. I had gastroparesis for over a year and know what it is like.
unfortunately, like i mentioned before i think it is back. keep us informed on your progress.
