I have something that I have been curious about. Normally I do NOT eat any breakfast & will usually wait until around 2pm before going to lunch with no problems.
If for some reason I am starving when I wake up & eat a couple of waffles or something for breakfast, it is all I can do to wait until 12 or 1230 for lunch. Usually, I will notice myself getting real shakey or something by 11 o clock since I am so hungry.
Why do I get so hungry & shakey when I eat a little something for breakfast but am fine til 2pm if I don't eat breakfast?

That happens with me also. It's kind of like your body shuts down and go a long time before you get hungry BUT, that's not healthy at all.
As you, if I eat something in the am (a piece of toast), I'm starved by 11:00am or so.
Food gets the metabolism going.
Try and eat something in the morning. And then maybe a snack when you start getting hungry, like an apple.
It's much better to graze than to pig out also. Eating a little throughout the day (not chips and candy bars - LOL) will keep your blood sugar even and you'll feel much better.

I am the same way, but I actually find I have a harder time controling my weight and food intake when I start eating a regular breakfast...because I am so hungry by 10:30, I eat, then I eat lunch again, and the cycle repeats all day...I end up eating way more than if I had just not eaten breakfast. It may not be healthy, but skipping breakfast is the only way I have ever been able to lose weight. I also think when you skip breakfast your tummy shrinks a bit (at least mine does) so i tend to get fuller faster at lunch, even if I am ravenous at the beginning.

Hi,
This may have to do with what you're eating. ex: Foods with high sugars will fill you up for a moment but make you hungry again soon afterwards. Try having a healthy snack between meals that are low in calories and saturated fats (stay away from the vending machine... ;) )
Skipping meals is not a smart way to go. For starters your body will store more fat this way and your metabolism will slow down. And if not careful you may be setting yourself up for an eating disorder.
Eat smart... :)

Like it was said: eating gets your metabolism started. I was like you, skipped breakfast for years. But it's not healthy. For example: people who skip breakfast tend to have higher cholesterol.

I agree partially with the last poster.
The key to having breakfast in an attempt to control weight is watching what you eat. Although waffles are yummy, theyre all carbs and simple sugars- ie/they won't fill you up for long and you will need more energy soon after eating. Instead of eating these sorts of things, breakfast should include protein (eggs, sausage, ham, cheese), a little fat (butter, cream, the fats in the eggs/meat/cheese) and carbs, but preferably whole grain with FIBRE. Eating a combo fo these three things will keep you full for much longer. Try:
- eggs with whole grain toast/ww english muffin
- omelette filled with cheese/ham/veggies
- muesli with fruit and milk/yogurt
- high fibre cereal with milk and fruit
- ww bagel with cream cheese or other cheese, fruit
- high fibre, lower fat muffin with fruit (be careful with thse though..some can be high sugar, defeating the purpose!)
..and so on...there are lots of possibilities once you start thinking about it and considering what you can have. It's best to try to get a combo of the three mentioned factors but if you cant, getting just protein and a lil carb or carb a lil fat is fine..variety and moderation is key for all. Also, between meals, try to drink a bottle of botter (or 2 glasses) at least to also keep you fuller for longer.

Thanks everyone... I guess I will have to try getting up a little earlier to have time to fix some eggs, bacon & toast or something along those lines.
Even though I skip breakfast I still don't eat a REAL big lunch. Usually a low fat Subway sandwich with a bag of Baked chips & a drink. I have actually done good laying off the cheeseburgers that I was eating 3-4 days a week. Haven't had one in 2 1/2 months.

Good job JWT - although I still disagree with everyone about breakfast, at least for me. i think everyone's body is different. I am in very good health, and although I do not routinely skip breakfast, it definitely helps me lose weight when i need to.
And for the record, it does not matter what I eat, I am still hungry and eating more throughout the day when I start with breakfast - When i have breakfast I eat cereal with fruit, or whole grain toast with peanut butter, or scrambled eggs, salsa and cheese in a tortilla.

Forgot to mention this: people who skip breakfast not only tend to have higher cholesterol, but are more often overweight.

I for one don't have high cholesterol and I am not overweight :)
I had some cereal and a piece of whole wheat toast with peanut butter for breakfast today. I'll post later and let you know how I am doing.

My cholesterol is high & I am 6ft & 225lbs so I am a little over weight.
May sound gross, but I guess me putting peanut butter on my waffles & making like a sandwich out of them isn't helping either. LOL! I am a BIG PB freak!

LOL - I love PB too - I agined a lot fo weight in college and I couldn't figure out why...after all, giant bagel PB and J sandwiches should be healthy, right? ;)
Well, it is 11:40 where I am and I am frickin starving. I am not going to make it until my normal 12:30 or 1 lunchtime, so i am going to eat lunch early and then probably pig out for the rest of the afternoon. Just as I suspected. No breakfast for me tomorrow.

not eating breakfast isnt a very good idea, It's hard on your body to go from dinner to lunch the next day (esp. if you wait until 2) with no food.
THe reason why you get so hungry is because all you are eating at breakfast is carbs. Try to have something with protein in it so you can go longer without being hungry

I definately plan to try it!
My weekend breakfasts are a totally different story...Biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon &/or sausage. Eat that & won't eat again til suppertime around 5 or 6 o clock.

hoyt, are you talking to JWT or me? Sounds like the protein does work for JWT, but not me. It does not matter what I eat in the morning, it just gets my system all revved up to want to eat all day. Grrrr.
I am just going to do what is best for my body...and that is NOT EAT BREAKFAST!!
I refuse to load up on fatty processed meats in the morning just to see if it will keep me full til 12. No thanks.

JWT, how are you doing? I feel like a fat pig. I had a party on Satruday night so imbibed in way too much of everyhting, then had a hangover yesterday so I ate everyhting greasy I could find. I vowed today to quit it, but when i bought my morning latte, i founf out I got a free cookie for some promotions, so I ate that and about strangled myself. Had a bowl of turkey chili for lunch though and that was good and I am still fairly full. Almost 4 here.

Not too bad...Still not eating breakfast like I should though. I just have trouble getting up early enough to have time to cook.
I think I will make all this my New Year's resolution! Eat breakfast, exercise & workout after work at least 3 days a week & vow to get below 200lbs for the 1st time in years. I made it to 210 earlier this year & stayed at that for about 2 months & couldn't break-it. Need to try again!
I have a CHRISTMAS party this weekend so we will see if I can keep everything in moderation. LOL!

I have actually been eating breakfast this week at like 9:30, after I have been at work for a while, instead of 7:30 before I go to work. This seems to help me stay satiated for a lot longer and I don't overeat during the day. I'm not usually hungry first thing in the morning anyway, so this works quite well for me. Maybe you could do the same, then you don't have to compromise your sleeping time :)
There are a lot of things you could prepare ahead of time or keep at work to eat for b-fast.
