Isn't it normal to burp a lot after eating a meal? I thought this is because of the air swallowed during the eating. I burp often after eating but this does not cause any pain or burning. Except somtimes with spicy foods. I do have bad breath though and I wonder if this is the cause of it as I brush, floss and scrape my tongue regularly. Would taking something like tums cure this??
Also, I don't really understand what heartburn is when people say that have that. What does that feel like?
Thanks,
Bruce

It doesn't sound like you have any unusual problem. I don't think it's GERD. GERD usually feels like a very hot, some say "burning" feeling that rises up from the middle of the chest, where the esophageous meets the stomach. The acid is escaping from the stomach into the esophageous, typically because the lower esophageal spinchter muscle was compromised and temporarily (or permanently) loosened. Sometimes, the stomach actually rises up into the opening of the esophageous, which is called a "hiatal hernia".
You would know if you had heartburn. It's a very distinct feeling.

I'm not sure what's normal, but I will tell ya what I know! lol. I burp constantly now because of my GERD, and it's after meals and at all other times. I do think that people burp a lot after meals, now that I think about it. I'm not sure that tums would cure it, but it's worth a try for sure.
For me, heartburn is a sharp pain right around your heart area. I was relieved to find out that it's not actually your heart that's getting burned lol. It actually hurts quite a bit to the point where some people mistake it for a heart attack.
Hope I helped. :)
