Shouldnt they stop this happening? cfoxj 12-08-2005, 05:28 PM Tracey, check out the rap sheet for your medicine. Is one of the side effects rapid heart beat? tracey2775 12-08-2005, 05:41 PM Hi there, its not actually a fast heart rate as if you've just been running, its more fluttering, skipping and a quick short burst of rapid beats which last about 3 secs but are really fast and frightening. MrsPM 12-08-2005, 08:39 PM Hi Tracey! A side effect of beta blockers is arrhythmia. Although beta blockers are prescribed to reduce arrhythmias, sometimes they can cause them. I've been on Inderal for nearly a year without any side effects, but I still experience palpitations. I know they are not due to the medication, but rather my heart reacting to stress. I feel the palpitations sometimes after eating, exercising, emotional stress, and sometimes when I wake up in the morning. It's also possible that your dosage is not right for you. For example, if you still experience palpitations, you may need a higher dose of the medication. I would talk to your doctor. I know how much of a nuisance palps can be. Good luck! starsofglass 12-09-2005, 10:45 AM Well, I used Inderal and actually had tons MORE heart skips, instead of less, so yes it can happen. Kathy C 12-09-2005, 01:58 PM YEs you can still have palps when on beta blockers. They are used to slow the heart rates down but will not eliminate the palps (almost impossible to do that). I was on several drugs and had fewer palps when on them but still had them it is still normal cause that is the ways your heart works. Kathy NeuroticHousewife 12-09-2005, 08:43 PM I too take propranolol (100-160mg a day). I have significantly LESS PVCs (skips) since on the med (exactly 2 years now)..but I do still get them. Usually around my period and sometimes when I am very stressed or after eating. But mostly just around my period. It took quite a while to adjust to the med and I had to play with the dosage too. At first I took 40mg twice a day. Then I took 20mg 4 times a day. That wasnt enough so Dr doubled that and I took 40mg 4 times a day. I have slowly lowered that since I have been doing well. I now take about 20-30mg 4 times a day. |
