Hello feima...It could be any number of things that is a cause for your problem:
1. Your Gut might not have enough Hydochloric Acid to help digest your food stuff.
2. You might have Gastroparesis, which is a condition responsible for delayed digestion due to nerve damage.
3. Your diet might consist of too much fat, which requires a heavy load on those factors which will influence digestion.
4. A combination of the above.
5. Make an appointment with your doctor to discuss this, so that he/she can order the necessary tests to arrive at a diagnosis.

Barrygood, I am interested in what you say about the hcl acid. Don't the PPI's and other acid reducers reduce it more. How do you know if there is not enough HCL. The Drs. keep pushing the pills to reduce acid reflux. I have wondered if these pills could be making things worse.

Hello Canyondweller.....Acid reflux (Gerd) and the treatments prescribed are almost like "fads". This is not to say that Acid reflux and Gerd do not exist, they do....but just like fashion comes and goes into the limelight, the same with medical problems and treatments. The most important thing is to arrive at a diagnosis which is done with the person's subjective symptoms as well as "objective" lab data. In this case, Hydrochloric acid can be measured and yes PPI's as well as antacids do interfere with the production of acid. It is like too much of a good thing. If the Acid is in abundance, then it will cause problems. If there is not enough acid in the Gut, that will also cause problems interfering with part of the digestive process.

My PCP called it the "disease of the month" Good advertising has greatly helped and now everyone seems to have it. I have actually gone off my Nexium and back to Tagamet and Pepcid as I seem to feel better on them than when I do the PPI's. I know I have less heartburn with Tagamet than I do with the PPI's. I guess it is a crap shoot no matter what we do.
