My neuro prescribed Provigil to try and help with fatigue. He says there has been some success for people with MS. Just started taking it today and curious if any of you had used it or discussed it with your Drs. Fatigue is definitely me biggest consistent sypmtom. Provigil is for narcolepsy so heres hoping it can help me stay up past 9 pm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Watching the 10 news would be nice! Merry Christams all. Any input is greatly appreciated. Lucybelle :)

Hi Lucybelle :)

I am taking Provigil. While not perfect it definitely does help with fatigue. I guess the best thing you can say is that it "gives me a lift".
I frequently take it around noon to make sure its effect lasts all day. Hope this helps.

Hi Lucybelle,
When taking Provigil, I do feel more able to focus although I don't feel a whole lot more energetic.

I don't take it on a regular basis, much to my PCP's dismay.

I take a sleeping pill and an anti-depressant every night to get and stay asleep. Before relying on aritficial mean to keep me awake, and make me fall asleep, I'd rather just make sure I'm getting that good healing sleep that I'm missing.

Sorry, as you might have noticed, I'm having issues with all the meds I have to take on a regular basis.

Anyway, if it works for you, go for it. Only you know how your body responds to medications.

Thanks for the input. I am on day three and not real sure if I will continue. I feel tense and edgy and I still fall asleep at 9 and wake up about 2 with a hard time geting back to sleep. Thanks again! Merry Christmas Lucybelle

Lucy, that's exactly why I'm on the sleeping pill. I take the anit-depressant because I can't turn off my mind at night.

Are you taking the two 100mg dosages. From what I've read, that's "norm". If needed, maybe take less 2x/day, like 1/2 pill?

I read on the NMSS website that Provigil showed promise in alleving fatigue, but, then it also states that when tested against a placebo there was no difference in the findings.

So, to each his own. You'll just have to play with it a bit I suppose. And if it doesn't work for you, try something else.

Good Luck,
Lisa

I tossed the Provigil and shredded the pharmacy label so I am not sure of the mgs but the bottle said not to break the tablets or change the perscribed dosage which I guess I could have done anyway but the little blurb I recd from the pharmacy said abuse could occur and I am really paranoid about that kind of stuff I wasn't crazy about it from the get go. Thanks so much for the responses. Lucybelle

Hmmmmm, I didn't get the little blurb from the pharmacy. Good thing I was paranoid as well about addiction. :)

If you haven't already, ask your Dr. to try you on Amantadine. The medicine was apparently originally intended for Parkinson's tremor, but, also is good for fatigue. I've been on it for about 7 months now and it has helped.

Good luck,
Lisa

Lisa and Lucy,
Could you tell me about the addiction issues with Provigil? I've been on it for 2 months and it has helped some. I don't have the pamphlet...I certainly don't need new problems! Is Amantadine considered a better choice for fatigue? Is it better to just stop fighting the fatigue and rest more? I've been wondering if I'm doing more harm thatn good..thanks to you both.

I tried the Provigil and I had bad headaches, 4 or 5 a week. I was also so mean and short tempered. I felt alert but not energized, I was still slow moving, still tired, still needed a nap.
The best thing I have found for the Fatigue is taking Lunesta 3mg. It comes in 1 mg, 2mg, and 3 mg. I'm sure you have seen the comercials for it with the butterfly. I's not addicting. I've been on it since March. I sleep like a rock! I am so rested when I wake up and have tons of energy to get me through the day. I no longer need to take a nap in the afternoon. I've tried all those prescribed fatigue pills, they are a waste of money. Rest and a good nights sleep is the best fatigue remedy. Neurontin made me feel dizzy and wacked out. Hope this helps. Don't get me wrong. It might work for you. I've been the lab rat and was on 6 different drugs a day. I only take Lunesta now and some vitamins and minerals. Everyone is different and drugs affect them differently. You just have to find what works for you. I think the less drugs you take the better you'll feel. Thats what I learned from experience. Good Luck to you all.
