I have sever pain on the right side of my face :(
the dentist took an x-ray, tooth #5 has a "fuzzy" area right at the top of the root, the dentist says it's an apico abcess, tooth #5 is also the front tooth holding my bridge :( There is no bump or swelling on my gums, but just to the right of my nostrils hurts when pushed on and the bridge seems to be pushed down to where it hits first when I bite down :( I have been put on antibiotics and loratabs for pain and referred to an endodontics doctor....and he can't see me until Aug 21st!!! Is the pain going to go away before than, is it an abcess since there is no bump on my gums?

Hi,

It sounds like it's an infected root. Usually if it's a gum infection there will be a visible bump or swollen spot on the outside of the tooth. If your having pain and there is no swelling or bump, yet it's showing fuzzy on the x-ray, then it's probably an infected root. They might have to do a reverse root canal.

If the dentist gave you antibiotics then that should help with the infection and also the pain, once the infection becomes stable or lessened. The pain killers should help as well, lortabs are pretty good. You should ask your dentist to make sure but I think you would be able to take an anti-inflamatory along with the pain meds. That should help a lot with any inflamation or swelling, even inside the gums, and not to mention aleviate some of the pain. Try to ask if you can take Motrin or Alieve OTC (Over the Counter) meds for inflamation.

Hope this helps, keep us posted..
