View Full Version : Cracked skin under big toe

Hello -

I've noticed that I have been getting cracked skin (it hurts because it's like a large cut) usually under my big toe. It comes and goes. Anyone experience this annoying issue too? By the time I make an appoitment to go see a doctor, it's gone. These cuts (usually one big one) come and go throught the year. Lately it's been more persistant. Could it be a sign of diabities? I am not diabetic, but had gestational and my mom is Type II.

Thanks for any and all posts!

I used to get the same from being in the sea alot(salt water) and walking barefoot.
Get some feet cream to soften your skin. :bouncing:

Thanks for the reply. I am ALWAYS barefoot! I can't stand to wear socks inside.

Fungus could be causing the cracking. Try using anti-fungal cream (Lamisil) and see if it corrects the problem. Also, when you wear shoes, change every day to allow time for shoes to dry out good. Always wear socks when wearing closed toe type shoes.

At night use a good cream for dry skin, under toes but not between toes and rest of feet, sleep in socks. You can mix a little Lamisil along with a cream for dry skin at night.

Make sure it doesn't get infected. Diabetics are prone to foot infections that don't heal. Try Polysporin anti-bacterial ointment.
