She thinks it's a UTI. She gave me Bactrum and Pyridium (it's for the pain I guess). She said that if the Pyridium clears up the pain, then that in of itself tells her it's a UTI. Has anyone ever taken this med before? Did it help?
My urine had blood in it and it was very acidic (????). The only symptom I have is flank pain - no pain while urinating, no change in frequency, no fever.
She's sending my urine to the lab and she said she'd call when she found something out.
She said to come back if the pain wasn't gone after I finsihed the Bactrum.
People that have had UTIs before - does this sound right? She didn't seem too sure that it really was UTI, but wanted to treat just in case.
Any help from those that have had this before as I've never had a UTI and I don't know what to expect?????

The Pyridium sure worked! I can tell that it's worn off though because the flank pain is back with a vengenace!
I was hoping that the Bactrim would have kicked in by now to help clear the infection. I got very little sleep again last night (after having 2 goods nights of sleep thanks to Pyridium). If it's not better by tommorow, I'm calling the dr back...I can't stand the pain!

I've just come to this board hoping to get some answers to what just recently started happening to me and I found your original thread. It is almost exact as to what I'm experiencing! Sleeping is becoming a chore, I have horrible pain in my back on the right side at the bottom of my ribs. This only gets bad at night, during the day it is managable, more dull than severe...anyway I'm digressing...what I really wanted to know is how are you doing? Did more antibiotics work?
Thanks for all your help and I hope you're feeling better, I can truly say I understand what you're going through!!

I'm sorry that you're suffering too! Have you been to a dr yet? What did they say? I can sympathize with you, and I hope that you feeling better ASAP! Please let us know how you're doing.
I'm sorry to report no answers for me, though.
At first my dr thought I had a UTI. The pain didn't get better, so then they thought it was a kidney stone. I went for a CT scan, and they said there was a kideny stone in right kidney. I was sent to a urologist, who says that it is NOT a kidney stone. Now I'm wondering what it is ( it is small - 2 mm - but still I'm wondering) and what to do. I've got a call into my neph. to see what she thinks.
Anyone ever had something like this show up on a CT scan? What was it? I don't know why the radiologist said it was a kidney stone if it wasn't, and the uro was SURE that it wasn't a stone as that's all his practice deals with. I still have the side pain, which the uro thought was a pulled muscle since it wasn't a stone. But a pulled muscle doesn't explain the blood in the urine.
I guess I don't know what to think. I'd just like the pain to go away and I'd like to know what the spot in my kidney is. I'm hoping it's just something harmless.
Any thoughts?
