I'm taking Lotrel(10/20mg) and Toprol XL (50 mg) together. Is it ok to take a beta blocker and a calicum channel blocker together?

From what I have read and been told by doctors, only some CCBs should not be used with beta blockers (diltiazem, verapamil and one other that I don't recall the name of). These CCBs slow the heart rate as do beta blockers and that's the reason doctors don't like to prescribe them together.
I believe Lotrel is a combo of amlodipine and an ACEI and therefore ok to take with a beta blocker.
