Is it healthy for your nails to buff shine them every day? I want the glossy look of clear nail polish but don't want to use polish. Just wondering if even the buff shine will wear down the nail.

Thanks, Laurie

There is NO need to buff the nails every day - matter of fact, this isn't healthy for the nails as it can remove too many vital nail plate layers depending on how you do it and what you use. If you are using a three-way buffer, only use the black and white sides once a week. You can use the gray side to shine the nails daily if you want, but you shouldn't need to. If you are using a pumice buffing cream with a chamois buffer, only buff the nails once a week and no more. The pumice can remove too many vital nail plate layers.

I use the 3 way buffer. I didn't mean to do all 3 buffings every day , just the gray side for a good shine on my nails. I do the 3 way buffing once a week. I am assuming then that if I do it every day with just the gray side, it will not wear down my nails. I just like the shine it puts on my nails, so I don't have to use nail polish. Thanks for the response.

Using only the grey side to high-shine is fine. The only portion of your nail plate you would need to buff with the black and white sides are the NEW GROWTH only, and that is closest to the cuticle. I would not recommend buffing the netire nail plate with teh black and white sides more often than once a month.

Wow I didn't know that. Maybe that's why my tips keep breaking. I will stop with the weekly buffing then and only do the new growth. Thanks!
