Does anyone have any good remedy for getting rid of a nasty camker sore? I have one inside my lower lip and it is extremely painful. I have been using choraseptic to numb it here and there but it doesn't last very long. My bottom teeth keep rubbing against it. Ugh! I would really appreciate any ideas. :)

Either get some alum....it's a white powder that tastes absolutely terrible and put it on it for as long as you can stand it....or swish warm salt water around in your mouth....either one works fairly quickly.....that is the worst spot for one though! They always seem the toughest there!

Can you get that powder at any drug store? I've never heard of it but I am willing to try anything! I've been starving! It starts to sting so bad when I am eating that I haven't been able to even finish a meal! I hate these things! Thanfully I very rarely get them... but this is the biggest one I've ever had. Thanks for the advice!

I also woke up the day after the canker sore started with TERRIBLE swollen glands down all over my neck and in the back of my head. I looked up swollen glands online and several of the pages I read said they can be a side effect of mouth sores such as canker sores????? Does anyone know why you glands would swell with canker sores? That was just very surprising to me. While it says they can be a side effect of the cankers, they never say WHY they are? Does anyone know anything about this? The glands are driving me about as crazy as the canker sore. I can barely move my neck and they are so swollen you can actually see the lumps sticking out of my neck. And teh one on the back of my head is HUGE and incredibly painful....

I would assume that's where you would get it....i just remember using it as a kid...tastes horrible but works great!.....when i was a kid it was in an orange and white container with a metal lid....that's about all i can tell ya...sorry...i don't get cankersores very often anymore so if i do i just do the salt wash thing now.
As for the glands....i think cankersores can be a sign of a weekend immune system, i know as a kid soon after a cankersore appeared often i would get sick....straight taking your vitamins now! :D

I have had similar history except I normally get the cankers WHILE I have a cold. But like you, I get them so rarely that I can't even remember the last time I had one. And tthis one just keeps getting bigger! It's suprising how something so small can be so incredibly painful! I will go look for that product you told me about this afternoon. I'll try anything at this point!!! Thanks for the input! I appreciate it!

I've got something going on right now that I don't know if it's a canker sore or what. I've had canker sores before, but this one is on my gums right beneath my lower canine. The nerves in that tooth are all jaked up. I seem to be getting an infection too. ugh. A friend told me that orajel has something for it so I went to the drugstore and lo and behold! there was orajel mouth sore medicine. I can't tell if it has made any actual difference in the condition yet, but it seriously numbs you. It actually has medicine in it to heal you.

Thanks for the meds advice! I might try that one. I've heard from someone else that is great at numbing...
As for your problem... You might want to get it checked out by the dentist. You may be getting an abscessed tooth. And you won't be able to cure that at home. You will need antibiotics. If it goes to far they may have to actally drain the infection out and you might end up needing a root canal! What you are describing is exactly what happened to one of my brother's teeth. Yeah, I was wondering about the possibility of an absess. However the orajel does seem like it might be doing the trick, and not just at numbing. The swelling seems to be less as well as the blister looking thing. I think I will wait and see. If it goes away, great! If it comes back I'll go get it looked at. Thank a lot.
