2 weeks ago I discovered a black and blue area about the size of a tennis ball on the outside of my right breast. I had not injured myself and have no clue about how I got it. Over the next few days it changed from black and blue to a deep burgundy color. I started feeling for a sore area and didn't find one but did find a fairly large lump. I had my annual exam scheduled for a couple days later and my doctor examined it and sent me for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound the next day. The tech doing the sonogram said she could see something in a duct but the radiologist came in before she could tell me more. He said it might be a hematoma but he wasn't sure. It if was still there in 6-8 weeks, I'd need to have it re-evaluated.

My doctor wasn't comfortable with that wait time and shortened it to 2 weeks unless something else developed and it did. I now have a nipple discharge from that breast and the area around the lump is sunken in on one side. It's also a bit red over the lump itself. I am seeing a breast surgeon on the 21st and just wondered what I should expect.

Hi, there,

I've never posted to this list before, but just wanted to wish you all good luck with your appointment. You are absolutely right to get it checked out to the fullest extent. You know your own body, and it's good that you are not delaying further tests.

I went today fully expecting a needle biopsy but the surgeon is going to remove the whole lump on Monday.
