I have been taking metoprolol for quit a while now but have had to stop suddenly due to lack of funds to pay for doctor,s visits . Now for the past few nights when i lie down and turn on my side , my heart begains to flutter very fast , it does not matter which side i turn on it will flutter but if i lie straight on my back it does not flutter .

What is causeing this ?

Should i be going to the emergency room and staying overnight so that they can monitor it and see what is going on .?

I know that when you are on the beta blocker you are not suppose to stop suddenly , could this be a side effect of stopping suddenly or what ?

I have went several times to the ER and they only take my pulse and check my oxygen which is totally fine and then they send me home saying i have nothing more then gas or heartburn , but i have had gas and heartburn before and neither of those two do this to my heart and make it flutter like it is doing . They say it does not hurt me to stop the beta blocker , etc but from what i have read online and heard it does hurt one to stop the beta blocker .

I have tried several times to get help with my meds but have been deneied by both the state and these so called safty health plans , etc , they say that my asthma and tachycardia are not covered by them etc .

Should i be worried or am i just paranoid  ? I am only 33 and have had 1 heart attack already and want to live not die .

What were you taking the Toprol/Lopressor for? How long had you been on it?

Yes, quitting the Toprol suddenly can cause symptoms like yours. Since you have a history of heart attack, I'd probably say you should visit your doctor or the ER.

Do NOT stop taking your beta blocker. Find a way to get your meds. I stopped suddenly and had a heart attack. Call you Dr., ask for samples till you can find a way to pay for them.

Good Luck

You know to be honest with that question i really have not got a clue as to the true reason my doctor put me on it . All i know is he told me i had developed tachycardia and put me at first on metoprolol 50 mg then after about 1 month he increased it to 100 mg .

I did once have to stop suddenly on the metoprolol for about two weeks then my chest started hurting really bad so i went to the ER here in town and they did an x-ray and checked my oxygen level , said i was just fine and sent me home with another prescription for metoprolol for only 30 days , which i have just run out of about 4 days ago again .

I had called my doctor and asked about getting a refil called in but he wants to see me so i called back to speak with the secretary to make an appointment to see him and tried to work out an arangment to pay it later but they refussed and said they needed the money up front . Just goes to show how much doctors care for their patients these days doesn,t it . I think they are more interested in money then anything else .

For how long i had been on it would be about 6 months .

already tried that and he refussed to give me samples , he said i have to come in and see him so he can check up on me and see if they are still working  I just hate being cut off my health care cause the dumb state has not got the money , yet i now hear they are going to build a new football stadium , with the money the state saved by cutting me and about 250,000 more really sick people off their health care just to have the money to build it with :nono:

That is so wrong and i know of several people who have died because they were cut off , something should be done but here in tennessee they just do not care for the sick . The night i went to the hospital they charged me about 600 $ which i can not pay cause i do not have the money .

I wish some doctor in tennessee would read this and help me to get my medicine and let me make payments on the doctor visit a little at a time , cause i need my medicine .

Susan, that is absolutely unbelievable and it infuriates me. The fact that you have to be wealthy to get reliable and good healthcare makes me livid. Health is a human right, not a privilege.

Susan I so hear you its sickening to me I too am in tn im orginaly from md and let me tell ya there is a big difference in health care here compared to md.Granted there are not so good hospitals and doctors all over though.I am in the same boat as you as far as insurance goes I have none and well we are low income.I went to the ER recently(left arm pain and a bit of chest pain) and had a echo and chest x-ray and blood done (DREADING that bill) the asprin they gave me will probably be 100 bucks. The doctor there wanted to have me lay with the ekg going for 4 more hours needless to say since things looked alright on the other tests I opted not to stay for the 4 hours. He also wants me to get with my doctor to have a stress test done im gonna skip that.ER doctor told me after the testing i had "well your only risk factor is smoking and your tests are ok so i dont think it is your heart BUT i cannot say that for sure you should have a stress test done." Anyway,I cannot totaly blame anyone for my lack of health insurance but myself, but it would be nice if there was something for those of us who work or have hubbys who work but just cannot noway afford insurance.Luckily my kids have the state insurance but i asked about ANY health insurance at all for me and my hub and i was told "There is none you have to either 1.be pregnant....2.no income at all.....or 3.one of the parents has ran off or is deceased. good grief so basicaly if my husband or myself dies THEN the other can get their health insurance lol . I had to stop my anti anxiety meds cold turkey also recently because i couldnt afford a doctors visit and meds also. Sorry for rambling I know your situation seems more serious then my own .this just burns my rump. I hope you recieve the care you need and deserve

Thank goodness there are others here in tennessee who are in the same situation as i am in and can understand where i am coming from , but it is not so good that others have to suffer because of the state . I often wonder in our former govener would have let this happen

It makes me mad as well but i have to keep my faith and keep praying that things will work out . I tell you they can not get money out of someone who does not have it . With my asthma and tachycardia i can not get a job cause they will not hire me , something about me being a risk to them , I have applied for disability but because my husband ( which i am seperated from ) gives me 300 $ per month , and i make about 200 $ give or take doing online survey,s they say they can not give me disability based on him and that i only have about 24 credits and need 40 to retire or get disability .

I just wish there was a better life , i am really thinking of saleing my place and moving out of state where their is much better health care .

Well it may be unbelievable but it is very true , ask anyone from tennessee who has been on tenn-care and are currently sick and they will tell you that they were cut off as well .

The ones who got to keep their tenn-care where those women who were with children , or those women who had breast cancer , or those on ssi , all others got cut off , rather they had heart disease , surgar Dia. , other types of diseases and sicknesses they were cut off .

My neighbor who has had 3 heart attacks and even has had open heart surgery got cut off and is in very bad shape right now . And he is 73 years old ,

Before the govener made the cuts their was a lot of people who went to the state capitol in nashville and even camped out there but still the govener cut us all off just to save money , now the state is going to build a new football stadium , a new hocky stadium , and i think a new baseball field .

Turn to wsmv channel 5 out of nashville or go to their site and check it out , it is crazy and dumb but that is how tennessee treats it,s sick people and poor people who can not afford insurance .

For me the cheapest insurance i have found for me ( because i have asthma and heart disease ) is 650 $ per month and my current income per month is only about 500$ . My medicine alone cost all my income right now so i had to do without it

Flovent inhailer 110 175 $ PER INHAILER BOTTLE
Albuterol inhailer 75 $ PER INHAILER BOTTLE
Provochol 179 $ PER 30 PILLS
Cartia xt 45 $ per 1 month bottle
Metroprolol 10 $ FOR ONE MONTH
Nitro quick 7 $

the cost is crazy and to cut people who are sick off is really crazy and not right . Health care should be number one priorty and not some dumb ballgame stadium :nono:

At any decent pharmacist on-line, metoprorolol is a DIME a pill. Coudn't the ER at least give you an Rx for it? After all, who can't afford a dime a day.

Metoprolol has to be weaned or else ones heartbeat can take off like a jet when it's stopped!

The only route to go in this miserable country if you get caught behind this eight-ball is to BEG the medical companies to give you their drugs on a compassionate basis...the bigger ones will in the hope that actions like this will polish up their recently VERY tarnished images.

But don't worry, George BUSH and Dick Cheney have EXCELLENT coverage...courtesy of the taxpayers.

yep , of course they do . Goes to show you just how much the goverment cares for the sick . :nono: There are a lot of people that need their medicine but others do not care until they get sick themselves .

Did you say you had asthma? Beta blockers are contraindicated because they worsen it. If you need a medication and can't afford it sometimes the drug companies themselves will give you a free supply. Stopping beta blockers suddenly can be deadly.
