Hi.. I have had a sinus infection for more than a month now that 2 rounds of a zpak, and mega dose of amoxicillian didn't fix. Now I have to get a sinus xray and I'm not sure what else they'll do. The pain is so bad I'm constantly dizzy and feels like someone is stabbing a knife into my sinuses. What would they do to fix this?

I've had sinus problems for years. I can tell you want my doctor has done. He normally does an x-ray if it doesn't respond to antibiotics. It's real easy to see on an x-ray where the inflammation is. I've also had a CT scan, which is much more detailed and can show polyps and such. There is surgery you can have on your sinuses which is supposed to be quite helpful, but I haven't gotten to that point yet. If antibiotic alone don't work he usually puts me on a round of steroids (Medrol) and a nasal spray (Rhinocort) and that usually clears things up. Good luck! Hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks for the info. I'm also on flonase and zirtec (SP?) ... tonight the pain is so bad in this one spot I feel like someone is taking a screw driver to it. I also get allergy shots every other week. I hope that my dr figures out what to do soon, because I hate taking tons of meds and still being sick and in pain!

twizliz , since you've tried Antibiotics (bacterium) with no luck and are taking allergy shots from my experience it sounds more Fungal than Bacterium, so why not ask your doctor about possible Fungal infection and see if he/she will prescibe ''Nystatin'' and see if that helps. take care !! harry!

Fungal? eww that sounds kind of gross lol. I'll have to look it up on the 'net and ask her about it tomorrow. Thanks for the advice!

I went to the dr today and as I figured they took an xray. When she looked up my nostrils she said that everything was still really inflammed, I had a low grade temp and my glands are still really swollen. She put me on another anti-biotic and told me to keep up with the flonaise and zytec. I'm a little worried because after the xray was taken the tech was like 'what's the plan of action ahead? is she calling you?" and I didn't really know and I said as much, and he was like "well I'm sure she'll call you on Monday" I asked what was wrong and he said he couldn't say and that radiology had to look at it. I know that they can't say what it is definitly, but they'll usually say 'oh it looks okay' or whatnot when it is fine. Now I'm worried because he didn't say anything and he seemed kinda weird after he took it. He was very nice, whereas he wasn't as nice before the xrays were done. Maybe I'm reading into it too much, but the worst that it can be is a blockage that would need minor surgery at most, right?
