Hey guys.

I have been drinking about 12 cans of Diet Dr Pepper for abot 5 years now. I don't drink anything else. I have decided to cut back on caffine and start drinking Caffeine free Diet Dr Pepper. Now i have had this headache all yesterday and today. I have tried taking Asprin and Excedrin but they both don't seem to help. How long do you guys think this headache will last? Know of anything I can take that might help the headaches?

Thanks

You might try backing off more slowly, substituting a few cans of caffeine free per day and slowly eliminating the caffeine. That was a lot of caffeine that you were consuming, so it's not surprising that you're having trouble stopping cold turkey.

Hey, just last night, I noticed that exedrin has caffeine in it. Read the labels. Do not take anything with caffeine, it is just not helping what you are trying to get rid of.

I think the best way to do this is to cut back one soda a day. Replace it with the caffeine-free soda. If you have done this for a very long time, better to start out real slow. Try to also drink water when you can. Some people are helped by drinking water.

I do not believe that you can expect to be headache-free when getting rid of a stimulant, so just wait it out and start out real slow. One soda less a day.

I am not sure how long headaches are supposed to last, but I am sure it's not a week especially if you take that much soda.

You may want to replace the caffeine free soda for water instead. After all, caffeine free soda are still terrible for your body. It's up to you.

Thx for the replies

I'll try drinking some water and see if that helps. May I ask why caffine free coke is bad for our bodies? I would just like to know becouse I have been drinking it to come off of regular coke.

So I can expect this headache for 3-days to a week?
I didnt know Excedrin had caffine in it. Thanks for letting me know that helps me out a lot!

Read the label on the back of the can. The amount of sugar in coke is astounding. Even if you are drinking sugar free coke it's still terrible for you. Artificial sweetener is just that. Artificial. Anything artificial is bad for your body. Any words that you can't pronounce are usually bad for your body. Anything with nitrites are also terrible. I don't know if coke has it or not, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does. Any sort of preservative is awful.

Several years ago I noticed I was getting 'weekend headaches', the only days I didn't drink a bunch of coffee at work. So I started drinking coffee on the weekends, which confirmed the self-diagnosis. So I went cold turkey and had a headache for 14 straight days and gave up. So now I drink 1 cup of coffee upon awakening and that is enough to prevent headaches 90% of the time. I asked a neurologist if this was possible, he said yes, it is possible to take 6 weeks to get over a caffeine-withdrawal headache.

Hello all,

Well I have been alternating my drinks, 1 can Dr Pepper, 1 can Caffeine free and water. This is my 3rd day with this headache. My headache isn't AS bad now with the alternating of drink, but I still have a headache. I can't see how some of you guys coldturky caffeine. I think quitting smoking would be easier! I don't think I can hold off 2 weeks. Anyone know what I can do to ease my headache/withdrawls?

Thanks!

I suggest moving more gradually away from caffein. Maybe reducing the amount a little bit per week. The more drastic the caffein reduction is, the more drastic the effects (headaches).

I personally do not ever drink coffee (I have tried it very few times in my whole life), and I very very very very.....very rarely get headaches/migraines.

As far as future diet, once you're goal is acheived, I would suggest only drinking water. There is nothing better than water.
