I went back to my ENT because this week I had 3 pills get stuck in my throat. A while back they diagnosed me with LPR. Mainly had too much mucus in my throat and a tad bit of burning in the throat. This past week my throat has been extremely dry along with my mouth. My ent told me to get a barium swallow test done, along with refering me to a GI to get scoped.
I haven't been taking my Prevacid like normal and my mucus seems to be back in my throat, thats a good thing right now, plus a bit of pain on my left upper rib cage has come back which seems weird to me. Does anyone have any advice for me? FYI, for anyone getting barium test done, its a piece of cake.....
Thanks again,

Hey Twig!!
You and I are in the same boat, I swear. When I read this, I was like "holy cow!!" I'm on Prevacid as well and the mucus in my throat constantly chokes me and pills get stuck constantly. After choking like that, I'd rather be in pain, thanks!! I get pain on my left side too, that sharp pain that really hurts, I hate that. Is there a reason you're not taking your Prevacid like normal? I remember having my barium swallow. Did they make you lie down and swallow that stuff? They did to me the second time I had it done, and I tell ya. Awful. But I'm glad that yours went well!!

Sonja,
I stopped taking them because they were getting stuck in my throat...I have been trying to the past couple days and the aren't as bad but still bother me a bit. I can deal with the mucus in my throat...The big thing that bothers me is when my throat gets really dry and I feel like I'm going to gagg or choke!
Has anything helped you out?
Thanks again,
TWIG....

You know what I do? Because of my mucus, the pills get stuck in my throat, so I open up the Prevacid and spill them into some yogourt and then eat it right away. It's just as effective, you just have to eat it right away or whatever you dump it in will start to decompose it.
The only thing I can think of to help you with your dry throat is to nourish it with some kind of soft, food, that's high in moisture (like yogourt, applesauce). I'm thinking that might help the dryness at least short term, and then you might be able to eat something.
I take an herb called Slippery Elm, from a suggestion off the GERD board, and it cuts the mucus in my throat, and it seems to help me. It's supposed to sooth the mucus membranes in your throat. The ones in your throat are probably damaged, so if they could soothed, maybe your dryness would go away.

Hi yes this test is by far an AWFU L one, I had it done a few months back and oh boy it was tough!, I almost threw up i mean they move you around and make you swallow so much of that yucky barium that it was pretty bad, i recent had one called an abation i think not sure of the name but with that one they gave me a little barium and watched it with a camara, and i could see how things went down, alot easier but the regular barium test was aghhh not that great.

Isn't it the worst, Jenny?
I had to lay down for my 2nd one and almost threw up, but I was lucky, they gave me a straw at least for the thinner barium. It's disgusting tasting!!! Did they give you those grains of white stuff to swallow that is supposed to put air in your stomach?
