Just wondering, sometimes when i take a bite of harder food, ie Bagle or a larger than normal bite of food, when i swallow i get this pain on my right side of chest that lasts like 2 seconds and goes away. Just wondering if anyone has experianced that before and if it is caused by the way i eat, Thanks a mil!

I have had that before as well I am not sure of the answer, but im thinking it maybe has to do with the way the food was digested.I do not think it is anything to worry about though.I would say if the pain goes on even when you are not eating then maybe you should go to your doctor with it .
I also have a question...I do not mean to blow off the original poster by no means I just figued since this thread was made over chest pains id type about it here.I have had left arm pain (sharp, aching type pains) for a couple months now this pain comes and goes last about several seconds if that sometimes the pains can be like 1 second.I have also had this pain in my chest.I have been to the ER with this had echo, xrays, blood tests.all normal..(er doc said he doesnt think its my heart but hed like me to get a stress test which i cant) so..anyway,tonight I decided to have a few mixed drinks and then I got the same sharp pain (this pain is always mild) in my chest it isnt directly in the center of my chest it leans more towards the left side.anyway, the same time I had it in my chest it was also in my left arm (elbow to wrist area). This kind of took me back a bit,but I stayed calm and just let it go it lasted a few seconds.I do not have health insurance so I cannot afford to go to the ER or doctors over everything I feel.I also wanna add I noticed a good amount of gas built up in me after I felt these pains (I burped off and on afterwards) I know you are not doctors, but what you say?

You didn't say how old you are, do you smoke, etc. I would suggest you go have it checked out. I know it's hard to go when you don't have health insurance...we hesitate to go and we DO have insurance, but it seems companies like to add all kinds of "rules" to trip you up and refuse to pay. Anyway, my husband had strange symptoms. No chest pain exactly. He said it felt like he had swallowed something and it was stuck. This would last a few minutes, then go away. He was pretty sure it was gas because later he would have burping and pass gas. It happened 2 times on a Tues, nothing on Wed, then 2 times on Thurs. On that Friday he decided to go to the doctor who sent him for a stress test. Long story short, he had a 90% blockage in his left coronary decending artery. If this would have blocked completely, he would have had a massive heart attack. They installed a stent and so far, he is doing great. What I want you to get out of this story is that my husband didn't think it was his heart, he thought he was having some time of digestive prob. It didn't feel at all like he though it would. He didn't have "crushing" chest pain or pain down his arm. His Cholestrol was 168 last year (he was taking Zetia because it has been over 200) and his blood pressure was very normal. He is only 48 years old. He has been a smoker for 30 years and the doctor said that is a major risk factor. He said that they could test almost anyone who smokes and find plaque in their arteries. Needless to say, my husband cold-turkeyed the cigarettes. We haven't gotten any of the bills yet (I'm dreading that!), so I can't tell you what anything cost, but I would at least go for a stress test if the doctor thinks it is needed. Good luck to you!

Have you ever researched into a possible connection between your heart rhythm problems, your other pain symptoms and your kidney problems?

hi kaycee
to answer your question I am 31 and yes a smoker.....im glad your hubby is doing good ....how scarey.maybe i should go ahead and try to have that stress test done, if nothing else i guess it can give me peace of mind. The ER doc said my symptoms were Atypical so not like the normal and that my only risk factor is smoking, but yeah he thought i should still have a stress test
by the way so far i have gotten just the ER visit bill and that was 300 .....so im waiting to see what the echo, blood, and xray is gonna cost ugh
anyway thanks for sharing with me .....merry christmas

In a recent post, you said that your urine is cloudy, plus the fact that you have had kidney stones, could be a sign that your kidneys are not functioning perfectly. That doesn't mean that your kidneys are failing, or that you have major kidney disease, but it might be a clue explaining your myriad of symptoms.
Kidneys provide a critical balance of salt and potassium, among other things. If your salt and potassium, and or other body chemicals, are out of whack, it could explain your significant palpitation problems. Solve your kidney problem and you might solve some of your other problems.
But...... I am not a health professional, so I could be totally wrong that your kidneys are not functioning as they should be. Usually when there is smoke, there is fire. Take care!

Yugokid it sounds like you have hiateal hernia. Make sure you chew your food really well and have something to drink often while you are eating. Nexium might help, but hopefully you have insurance because it's quite expensive.
Tnmomofive I am female and was 41 when I was found to have a blockage. The symptoms you are having are alarming. The alcohol that you were drinking could have caused your arteries to tighten down more and if there were a blockage there would be less blood flowing through the arteries. I have experienced angina when drinking alcohol. It's not something I do often but we were on a cruise and we all had a couple of shots of something and I ended up needing to use nitro after I tried to walk up some stairs.
I've never been in a situation where I've not had health insurance but I know that it must be difficult to decide whether you want to run up a large doctor bill. The tests you've had done in the ER are not enough to tell the whole story of what might be going on especially since they symptoms have continued. How do you feel when you have to walk up stairs or generally exert yourself? I had some discomfort occasionally when exerting myself but not every time. I also could have discomfort doing absolutely nothing. I remember before my blockage was found (I had already been to the ER at least twice) I was lying on a bed watching television and I felt funny feelings going on in my chest. I just knew something was wrong and it was different from palpatations that I had experienced for years. Just a couple of days later I ended up in the ER again and they finally decided to do a heart cath. That's when they found it. Before that I had even had a stress test with nuclear scan that didn't indicate a problem. Women are very different when it comes to heart disease and often our symptoms are not at all like mens and the tests that are done often miss the disease in women. You really should pursue having this test done. I never want to scare anyone who comes on here with questions like yours, but I'm a mother of 3 and grandmother of 4 and if I had not been persistent in finding out what was going on I would not be here for them today. My blockage was in the LAD like another poster above mentioned. It was at the top of the branch and if it had completely blocked I was told by the cardiologist that I would probably not have survived the heart attack. Just out of curiousity do you know your risk factors? Is there a family history, do you smoke, do you have know your lipid levels (cholesterol, triglycerides etc.), high stress levels, diabetes, or high blood pressure? I would definitely have the stress test with nuclear scan because it's generally a better diagnostic tool in women even though it didn't help diagnosing my case.

wow heartcreature
I do smoke, the ER doc said because no one in my immediate family has had heart problems that I am low risk........but I do smoke..have for 16 yrs.I also ate pretty unhealthy while pregnant with each of my kids (anything i wanted to eat) and minimal exersice.I just recently have have changed my eating habits back to healthier, still not as i should.I am a pasta, pizza, burger lover ugh lol.I dont eat those things nowhere near as often now and much less of it when i do.Usualy its chicken for meat now,i cant stand fish :bleck:.I am eating alot more veggies and fruits now too.Anyway,as far as feeling these pains during exersice I havent really noticed any during that.So the stress test didnt show your blockage sheesh I sure hope if I have any it will show up.I also have palpitations sometimes and I do have anxiety disorder,so sometimes I think "what if this is just some anxiety crap again?" or a pinched nerve or something and i go get this test and there is another bill i cant pay.I guess its better to be safe then sorry though or worse.I dont have shortness breath or anything else, but I did notice the morning after i had those couple drinks i felt somewhat short of breath while trying to clean house,so i relaxed till the afternoon when my breath was back.I guess all i can do is have the test done and see what comes of it.recently there was a friend of my husbands 31 yrs old too he went numb on one side of his body so got it checked out they found a clot on that side so he went to the hospital .they had to cut his scull cap off and things cause of brain swelling they thought he was gonna make it he even went outside for a walk then he had a stroke and was gone come to find out there was another clot on the other of his body somewhere he left behind 2 kids and wife he also had no health insurance.............i hear these things and it scares the heck out of me he was so young.I am glad that ER doctor took this seriously though alot do not when your this young and expecialy when you have an anxiety disorder.I have found in the past ANYTHING i go to the doctor about usualy gets blown off as more anxiety.I have a history of fainting happened several times over the last 12 yrs and I am a mess when i come to and it feels like my heart is involved it skips ,flutters,or is barely beating for several minutes after along with sweat from head to toe ,i vomit or have a bowl movement,so weak hubby has had to lift me to the bed........all this blamed on anxiety/stress ......i find that hard to believe........well anyway i have rambled long enough sheesh lol.I am so glad you are doing alright.I will call my doctor tomorrow morning and see if and when I can have this test done.Ya know I had a holter monitor done back in august and NEVER did recieve the results ! I called and called both my doctor and the place I had it done I guess it came out alright sine I didnt hear but I should be notified like anyone else should.................take care and thanks

I wasn't a smoker, didn't have high blood pressure, no diabetes, cholesterol below 200, overweight but not terribly. My father had a heart attack at age 59 and my good cholesterol was low and triglycerides were slightly elevated.
You might go out and try taking a brisk walk. Just be careful and if you have any symptoms like the pain you describe or shortness of breath you need to stop. I would take someone along with me. I could walk a pretty good distance and even some hills before pressure and shortness of breath would hit me. Other times I could just walk across a short parking lot an be short of breath. Throughout the day your arteries change and at certain periods they are more dilated than other times. My cardiologist explained to me that is why sometimes I was able to go along just fine and other times I couldn't. Almost always though stairs made me short of breath. I just attributed it to getting older. The shortness of breath on stairs actually was probably the first sign of a problem starting. Also in the 2 months before my blockage was found I was unusually tired. Here again I thought I was just getting older and that it was normal. 31 is really young, but it can happen. There was just a 32 year old male in my community that died last week of a heart attack. I'm not sure what his risk factors were, but I heard someone say he had been overweight at one time, but evidently was very active and a runner so you just never know.
I never quite know how to give my opinion without scaring the bejeezs out of people and especially when the person doesn't have insurance it's like should I even give my opinion, but some of your symptoms were similiar to mine like the elbow pain and going into the hand. You are lucky to have a doctor that wants you to have a stress test. Alot of them want to pass it off as stress or stomach problems when it comes to women(especially young ones) and chest pain. Evidently they are doing better!

wouldnt it be nice if all us women ever had to deal with health wise was stress reactions and belly problems ? lol I think id even take those over the monthly flow and menopause which I will go through later on.Yeah that is the first doctor I have seen in 12 years or more who has taken my symptoms seriously to bad he was the ER doctor and not my primary one.Alot also like to just dish out SSRI's and benzo's like candy to us women.
Dont worry about scareing me im already there lol.I understand though it is hard to tell someone the importance of symptoms like this WITHOUT scareing them.I really should try a walk like you sugessted, someone else sugessted that to me before just to see if i have pains or anything during.I think im gonna go dye my hair (yes i have alot of greys for a 31 yr old lol inherited from my mother who went salt and pepper in here late 30's,or maybe its the 5 kids prob a bit of both lol).then i may take my oldest son with me and go try that walk.
thanks bunches for listening to me and the good advice

so i get these random back pains cause i have extreamly poor posture from my sitting in a pc chair, i took a hugh bite of something and was turned around (back) and the spot of my back pain hurt a little more when i swallowed. could this be a accident? cause it was hurting before hand (little bit of motrin helped ^^)
and no i dont think this back pain is linked to my heart. But maybe cause i was twisted changing a channel i felt it in my back. Anywho i dont have time to read all the long posts too keep up with the current discussion. ^_^
