Hi not sure where to post this but i have a weird thing with my belly button.
I have a mole in the middle of it and i cannot stand touching it.
Sometimes if my trousers are to tight the button of my trousers digs in and it makes me shudder.
You know how some people can't stand to see nails go down a blackboard? Well thats how i feel about my belly button!
Because i can't stand touching it i can't wash it and now its starting to smell. I'm just afraid i'll develop an infection. Can anyone help?

I don't think that what anyone has to say here is going to completely solve your problem. I think you need to go to a counselor or psychologist to help you overcome your fear of touching your belly button. They might be able to help you so that you are able to touch it, and clean it for that matter.

They're not going to force you to touch it. They can do more than that. They will probably talk about it with you and maybe help you bring out the reason that you have a fear of touching it and help you overcome it. They won't force you to do anything... so there is nothing to be afraid of!!
Otherwise, I can't think of anything else you could do except live with it.

It doesn't sound psycological to me at all. I HATE to have my bellybutton touched. I don't have a mole on it either. I think it's something about the nerves. It doesn't hurt exactly, but it almost might as well. I can't wear anything that is tight around my navel. I have a hard time cleaning it too. I recomend trying to find something soft to use. Maybe a chamois or something like that.
I wash my bellybutton about once a month. I have a hard time getting dirt out so I use a needle or a tooth pick to gently dig out the dirt without touching it too much. (I can't believe I'm actually admitting this!)
You could also try doing a sea salt soak. This is not *quite* as difficult as it sounds. Put about a 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt in about 6 oz of water as hot as you can stand. Sort of bend over and let your stomach touch the top of the glass. Form a seal and then lay down. Stay like that until the water becomes cool.
I hope you can use any of those ideas. Good luck. Ugggggghhhh... I HATE my bellybutton touched!

Maree - You definitely don't need a psychologist. I had a little mole in my belly button also. Apparently it was actually not a mole but a slight hernia that occured when I was born. It's weird if you touch it, it hurts in your groin right? I know what you mean about the fingers on the chalkboard sensation. And for all thes years I thought I was the only one!!!

Ok maybe you don't need psychological help, but I've never heard of anything like this, so that would have been my first thought.
Hope all is well : )

Surprisingly enough, to me anyway, this is a fairly common thing. I didn't realize it until someone else posted here about it and people came out of the woodwork sharing their adversion to their bellybutton being touched.
I dunno, I thought it was weird at first but apparently it is not unusual.

Hi thanks for your replies!
It doesn't hurt exactly but i know what you mean, redsox, about pain in your groin. For me its not exactly pain but there is definatly a feeling, like a shudder that does go down to my groin! Its very hard to explain.
I have also had the mole in my belly button since i was born but no one said anything about a hernia, i'll have to ask my mum!
Janus - just thinking about putting a tooth pick in my belly button makes me cringe!
The other day i had on a pair of trousers and i had a big meal and felt really bloated, my trousers were digging in so when i got home and took them off i noticed a slight yellow stickyness on my trousers, behind the button, where it was digging in. It wasnt much but it did smell. So since then everytime i have a bath i have been filling a jug of hot soapy water and pouring it over that. I tried putting some soap on my finger and washing it but i just couldn't.

Wow, I thought this was just me...LOL....I also have the same problem. I can not stand it being touched. And same sensation where there is a shooting sensation into the groin. Not painful, just a not very comfortable sensation.
I had a doc poke me there once and they said, "did that hurt." Sure did butthead, don't touch me there again!
Anyways...what I do to clean it is take an alcohol swab. It has been the only thing that that I found that really cleans it quick. Just gotta make sure you have no cuts or anything in there of course. LOL

I am so excited!!! I thought I was the only one! Even thinking about bellybuttons makes me squirm... Yeh I get this scummy brown stuff in mine. I absolutely CANNOT touch the very inside; what works for me though is just using a towel, going AROUND the middle part, and pulling the skin aside as much as possible so I can scrub it without touching the actual bellybutton. BLECH! Yes it is exactly like the whole nails on a chalkboard sensation... except physically located on the body... Nice to hear there are others out there who feel like this!

I think Jessica Simpson has a new line of products and one of them is actually a perfume spray for your belly button......who would have known there was a demand for such a thing?

I can't stand having my ears touched...same type of thing. I have a really hard time cleaning them, and I've actually wound up in the doctor's office a few times having wax chiseled out of them. I've been assured that they don't look "dirty" from the outside. Anyway, I laughed when I read the
you-need-a-psychologist response. Most everyone has a sensitive area. I know someone whose "area" is the boobie area. They are off limits and her hubby knows it!
Take care! :)

Wow, I have a sensative bellybutton as well. I get that really queasy, dizzy, need-to-take-in-extra-air-or-else-I-might-pass-out feeling. I have an extreme innie bellybutton...and (I can't believe I'm sharing this) a few years ago I noticed stuff in there that wouldn't come out...it took all the gumption I could muster to try to get it out without hyperventilating! It was really scaring me. I finally dupped a crazy amount of soap in the button with a tad bit of water and layed down like that for a while. It finally loosened and this plug-like thing came out!!! I was very disgusted and horrified, and ended up going to the dr. becasue I was really unsure what it was, and was scared. He said it was a subcutaneous horn that pushed to the surface. Now I try extra hard to really clean it, especially since I can't really see where the bellybutton ends, I'm an innie that much. ANYWAYS, it is good to see I'm not the only one that gets queasy from touching their bellybutton.
