My son is about 15 and half months old and started walking about 13 mo. He walks ok most of the time but stills falls often and cannot really stand still for very long. His balance is just not too good. Like he will stop to watch something on tv but then starts rocking or just starts walking again. Should I be worried? How long should it take for his balance to be good? Should he still be falling even though he has been walking almost 3 mo.? He does seems to do better without shoes but not much. Anyones advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Angela

Most early walkers do better without shoes, because they spread their toes and use toes to grip (even though this grip is minimal, it (obviously!) does help).
Make sure his shoes are big enough, too small shoes make the toes curl up and make it is alot more difficult to balance (your child won't complain about too small shoes, his toes are so flexible that he will just curl them...)
Early walkers are also very curious and will try to look around a turn their bodies while trying to balance at the same time. Try to do this yourself. Stand and look around while turning your body and look up and turn (toddlers look up almost all the time because..well..they are short!). It is not as easy as it seems!
His balance will improve, and maybe you are just lucky to have one of these kids that seem to fall all the time (I call them the bruisers, two of mine were bruisers, the other two never fell!).
Isn't it fun to have a walker though!
